Therapeutic and prophylactic fungicide injection as a Dutch elm disease (DED) control measure prevented the loss of many valuable elms during this study in Greenfield Village historic park at Dearborn, Michigan. The survival of treated elms was monitored following injection of the fungicide, Lignasan BLP® (methyl 2-benzimidazole carbamate salt), and removal of DED symptomatic limbs. After 5 years following therapeutic injection, all injected DED elms averaged 25 percent survival, whereas those that were injected when they had 10 percent or less of DED foliar symptoms averaged 33 percent survival.
