Energy from the exhaust gas of an internal combus-tion engine is used to power an absorption refriger-ation system to air-condition an ordinary passenger car. The theoretical design is verified by a unit that is tested under both laboratory and road-test condi-tions. For the latter, the unit is installed in a Nissan 1400 truck and the results indicate a successful pro-totype and encouraging prospects for future devel-opment.

As coal, oil, natural gas and other non-renewable energy consumption and increasing energy demand, the utilization of solar energy as a new energy is greatly enhanced. In this work, a grid connected photovoltaic solar air conditioning system is designed, mainly comprised of solar panel, controller, inverter, room air conditioner and other parts. Air conditioning systems rely mainly on solar photovoltaic power; achieve the effect of energy conservation and environmental protection. The experimental result indicates that the system can achieve stable operation and the utilization of solar energy driving air conditioning system to save electricity. This air conditioning system is compared with the ordinary air conditioning system, SEER can increase 10.6 ~ 29.4%, HSPF can increase 6.25 ~ 18.5%.

In the solar air-conditioning system, it makes chilled water reduced to the lowest temperature in the night of the day without any form of energy consumption, and then makes use of water-cooled chillers of air conditioning to refrigerate further in the valley period of electricity consumptions. By doing this, it can improve the refrigeration coefficient of the air- conditioning system, and save energy and cost of electricity substantially. It will make the cost of solar air- conditioning lower than conventional air conditioning, and furthermore provides a broad way for the popularity of solar energy and solar air conditioning.
