ABSTRACT: A new species of Clavismaris Southcott, 1963 is described from the southern limit of distribution of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest at Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. The specimens were collected by pyrethroid tree canopy fogging in preserved mountain slopes forests areas around 120 m of altitude.

Distictus aurantium new species, from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, is described and illustrated. The validity of Distictus Townes was cladistically tested against 19 species and 60 informative characters, both with implied weighting and unweighted analyses. All cladograms recovered Distictus as monophyletic, while suggesting that it might be the sister group of the clade Lagarosoma Gupta + Prosthoporus Porter + Trypha Townes. Fenixia Aguiar is proposed as a new junior synonym of Distictus Townes, and the valid genus is transferred from Cryptina (=Ischnina) to Gabuniina. New distribution records expand the known range of D. tibialis to 17º48' latitude degrees, from Rio Grande do Sul to Goiás (Brazil).

Two species of hubbardiid microwhipscorpions (Schizomida: Hubbardiidae) are recorded from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Rowlandius linsduarteae sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on specimens from Mata do Buraquinho forest reserve, João Pessoa, state of Paraíba, northeastern Brazil. This species is apparently related to Rowlandius sul Cokendolpher & Reddell 2000, the only species of the genus known from continental South America, and represents new evidence of a biogeographic relationship between Amazonia and the northeastern Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Stenochrus portoricensis Chamberlin, a widely distributed species, is newly recorded from the states of São Paulo and Bahia, respectively, in southeastern and northeastern Brazil. The latter record refers to several female specimens associated with abandoned arboreal termite nests in a cocoa plantation.

Abstract A new species of Diderma (Physarales, Didymiaceae) was recorded in the Mata Estrela Private Nature Reserve, Rio Grande do Norte state. It is characterized by sessile sporangia, white globose columella, capillitium irradiating from the peridium, forming three layers, the middle part strongly calcareous, the outer layer cartilaginous and the inner layer membranous. A key to species of sessile sporangia Diderma with triple peridium is presented.

The formal description of a liverwort from the Paraná Basin is presented. The fossil was found in the Rio Bonito Formation, Early Permian (Sakmarian), and is identified as a new species of the genus Hepaticites, named H. iporangae n. sp. The samples studied were collected from the macrofossil-rich roof-shale layer of the Quitéria Outcrop in the municipality of Encruzilhada do Sul, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. H. iporangae is one of the oldest liverworts reported from South America. The fossil described here provides more evidence of the relative diversity of liverworts in Paleozoic Gondwana despite the severe climatic conditions during the glaciations of the Permo-Carboniferous.

A new species of Calydorea is described and illustrated for northern Uruguay and southwest Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. This new species is closely related to C. nuda however, differs by its dark-blue or dark violet-blue flowers, stamens with white-cream filaments and bigger anthers, and style branches free towards the top. Data on phenology, geographic distribution, conservation, and habitat are provided. Moreover, a table to segregate this new species from its related species, and an identification key for the Calydorea species occurring in the sub-region of “Northern Campos” of Río de La Plata Grasslands are supplied.

In this paper seven new species of Latonigena Simon, 1893 are described, including the first descriptions of males of this genus. Latonigena beni sp. nov. is described from Bolivia and Brazil and six species are described exclusively from Brazil: L. colombo sp. nov. from Paraná; L. lami sp. nov. from Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul; L. santana sp. nov., L. sapiranga sp. nov. and L. taim sp. nov. from Rio Grande do Sul; L. turvo sp. nov. from Tocantins, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. Latonigena africana Tucker, 1923 is transferred to Trichothyse Tucker, 1923 with basis on the morphological characters.
