En este artículo se analizan los embates experimentados por la religiosidad local y las devociones indígenas, promovidos por funcionarios civiles y eclesiásticos en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. Se sostiene la necesidad de las orientaciones pastorales, por cuanto las primeras están vinculadas a la necesidad de control del clero y reducción del gasto fiscal, que se tradujeron en una tendencia a privilegiar las obligaciones fiscales y tributarias de los indios por sobre las concernientes a la devoción. En el caso de las orientaciones pastorales, estas pusieron en cuestionamiento las modalidades que había asumido la religiosidad local, subordinándolas a las orientaciones de la iglesia universal, y las devociones indígenas a las que consideraron dominadas por supersticiones y excesos que se contraponían a la recta devoción y piedad. Estas fueron enfrentadas a partir de estrategias de resimbolización que enfatizaron el carácter intimista y personal de la devoción, alejada de la teatralidad barroca y del marco comunitario.
Abstract
In this article we analyse the battering experimented by the local religiousness and the indigenous devotions, promoted by civil and ecclesiastic public servants on the second half of the XVIII century. We held the need to distinguish the public policies of the pastoral orientations, since the first one are linked to the need of control of the clergy and the reduction of the tax expenditure, which were translated in a trend to favour the fiscal and tributary tax obligations of the natives over the ones concerning devotion. In case of the pastoral rientations, these ones questioned the modalities that the local religiousness had assumed, subordinating them to lean on the universal church, and the indigenous devotions that were considered dominated by superstitions and excesses that were opposed to straight devotion and piety. These were faced from strategies of resymbolization that emphasized the intimist character and personal devotion, removed from the baroque theatricality and from the community frame.
