Status and Future Perspective of Hazardous Waste Management in Korea

In this paper, classification and generation of hazardous wastes, related laws, and the hazardous waste management system currently employed in Korea are introduced. Recently, rapid and sustaining increase of generation rate, unsatisfactory reuse and recycle, inaccurate analysis and testing, and illegal treatment and disposal have been pointed out as major problems of hazardous waste management in Korea. In order to resolve these problems, the future directions and priorities in hazardous waste management in Korea are suggested.

Management of medical and hazardous wastes is a serious problem especially for developing countries. People are not aware of possible threats and/or they are afraid of the cost of application. Rapid population growth leads municipalities towards proper solid waste management applications. In this study, data were collected from the Turkish Statistical Institute and a general framework was drawn for medical and hazardous waste amounts and disposal methods. Starting from this point of view, the authors analyzed both the Regulation on Control of Hazardous Waste and the Regulation on Control of Medical Waste applied in Turkey. Taking into account all of these factors, this chapter is intended to develop the medical and hazardous waste management system economically and environmentally including waste generation, collection, transportation, disposal and treatment activities. Additionally, it investigates the reasons for lack of proper application of the regulations in light of the statistical data.

Following the expanding sweeping of Dong Nai provincial industries is the raising of hazardous waste which is increasing day to day, this affects to envir quality and to peopole's life in this area. At the present, the hazardous waste has been the environmental problem that is concerned not only by Dong Nai province but also by the country and all over the world. The aim of this paper is to determine and forecaste the amount of hazardous waste growing up to 2020 to sustain the management committee of seven industrial parks as well as hazardous waste managers in seizing the speed producing it. From those, bringing forward to soultion for a better hazadous waste management system. Besides, this paper also briefly propose the improvement of hazardous waste management system of industrial zones at Dong Nai province by using environmentally management and technical solutions, etc in order to assist with the hazardous waste management mission smoothly, litmit the pollution issues and protect the environment.

Denmark started development of its national hazardous waste management system in 1971,and since then the system has been continuously developed as a result of technical and political changes. This paper describes the development of this national registration, collection and treatment system for oil-and chemical wastes, seen from an operator's point of view. Development in waste amount is presented and commented on based on the corresponding political and legal actions taken due to the increased environmental concern in the country. Trends in development of alternative treatment and recycling facilities resulting from technological developments and economical incentives are mentioned.
