The Brotherhood of the Kingdom was organized in December, 1892, by a small group of converts to the ideal of the kingdom of God on earth who, not unmindful of the examples of St. Francis and of the Society of Jesus, planned to reestablish the idea of the kingdom “in the thought of the church and to assist in its practical realization in the world.” The year 1892 had witnessed a rising crescendo of social turbulence and political unrest throughout America. In the midwest the populist revolt was growing, while industrial warfare had broken out in the violent Homestead strike at the Carnegie steel plants. Jacob Riis had opened wide the festering tenements of the great cities in his revelation of How the Other Half Lives, while in intellectual circles the younger economists were rebelling against the tenets of the Manchester school. William Jennings Bryan's campaign for free silver was only four years away, and the Spanish–American War but six years in the future. Into such an atmosphere of storm and stress was born the Brotherhood of the Kingdom, dedicated to the realization of a spiritual ideal in the social order.

The Middle Ages

The fourteenth century was for England a period of storm and stress. The Saxon genius does not achieve its conquests lightly; it does not march to victory with furled flags or muffled drums; it is profoundly conscious of its own effort and the object to be realized. True, it often attains more than it hopes or even knows; but it attains the larger result through the accomplishment of the immediate purpose. The internal struggles are those that cost, with nations as with men; and it is no small part of the greatness of England that she has been able to see and strong to resist those dangers which, rising from within, have threatened to overthrow that stability which outward foes have in vain assailed. In that century which marked the close of the middle ages and the beginning of the modern era, England was busy taking cities and ruling her own spirit, and only the wise knew which was the better.

Masa remaja merupakan masa storm and stress, masa di mana remaja sedang bergejolak dan berisi konflik serta perubahan suasana hati. Tugas perkembangan remaja yang akan memasuki masa dewasa awal, menuntut perubahan besar dalam berfikir dan bertindak, dari hal tersebut kemandirian merupakan hal yang paling utama menjadi dasar dalam perkembangan selanjutnya. Untuk mencapai kemandirian, banyak hambatan umum yang ditemui pada masa remaja, diantaranya terlalu lama diperlakukan seperti anak-anak, perubahan peran dari anak-anak menjadi dewasa, ketergantungan kepada orang lain terutama pada orang tua yang terlalu lama dan terlambat dalam kematangan sehingga kurang mampu menguasai tugas-tugas perkembangan.Hambatan-hambatan remaja tersebut banyak ditemukan pada masa remaja akhir khususnya pada Mahasiswa. Tuntutan dan harapan untuk mencapai tujuan bagi mahasiswa sering mendapatkan hambatan sehingga tidak semua mahasiswa dapat memenuhi tuntutan tersebut. Setiap mahasiswa memiliki cara yang berbeda untuk menyikapi stresor yang ada. Individu yang mampu bertahan tentunya mempunyai sikap dalam menghadapi stress sehingga setiap mahasiswa harus bisa menjadi resilien. Resiliensi  sangat penting untuk dikembangkan dalam diri mahasiswa, maka perlu pula disusun sebuah instrument untuk mengetahui tingkat resiliensi  mahasiswa, karena selama ini konselor khususnya belum mempunyai alat ukur resiliensi  sebagai langkah awal pengembagan resiliensi  mahasiswa untuk itu perlu dikembangkan instrumen berbentuk inventori mengenai resiliensi. Penelitian ini dititik beratkan pada  ruang   telaah   mahasiswa bimingan dan konseling IAIN Tulungagung. Adapun rumusan masalahnya adalah bagaimana mengembangkan inventori yang memenuhi syarat validitas, reliabilitas dan penormaan yang memadai? Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif. Penelitannya menggunakan model pengembangan selanjutnya prosedur pengembangan dan uji coba produk. Hasil penelitannya adalah (1) Inventori Resiliensi  sangat mudah untuk digunakan karena terdapat petunjuk yang jelas dalam pengerjaanya, (2) Berdasarkan penilaian ahli isi dari inventori Resiliensi  yang dikembangkan telah sesuai dengan kondisi Mahasiswa Bimbingan dan Konseling Islam IAIN Tulungagung, (3) Berdasarkan uji kelompok kecil menunjukan bahwa inventori Resiliensi  diterima baik oleh mahasiswa, (4) Inventori Resiliensi  memiliki keterbatasan dan kelemahan yang masih memerlukan perbaikan dan pengembangan selanjutnya. Kata Kunci: Inventori, Resiliensi, Mahasiswa
