AbstractSustainability is now seen as a strategy used to encourage tourism. The objective of this research is to analyse the success factors of sustainable tourism in the southern region of the State of Sonora, Mexico. The research was carried out in 2018. The methodology used was qualitative, explanatory and non-experimental, that is, a multiple case study (Guaymas, Isla Huivulai and Alamos). It was concluded that the natural and cultural beauty, security and accessibility, as well as the environmental protection of the area were rated as important by 20% of respondents. Moreover, the business profile of the residents of a particular location with tourism potential and the accessibility of the place were rated as important by 10%. The implications of this are that as sustainable tourism projects are implemented, a variety of aspects will have to be considered in the tourism programme, also ensuring good management in order to achieve suitable conditions. In addition, governments should be encouraged to offer facilities and regulations to contribute to the improvement of these projects.

For most companies in the biotechnology industry, the core business is new product development (NPD). Indeed, there are still very few companies that have products that have reached the market. Research into NPD in biotechnology companies has largely focussed on success factors rather than the processes of NPD. One area receiving limited attention is the role of organisational communication in NPD. The authors of this study address this oversight in undertaking a multiple case study analysis of internal and external communication in NPD processes in biotechnology. The resultant framework for communication in NPD in biotechnology companies combines both structural and processual elements of communication. The authors found that the process of communication in NPD is essentially an information seeking and uncertainty reduction activity that occurs through both the internal and external environments of the firm. The framework is a hybrid of cross-functional, decision stage and network models.

Purpose This paper aims to report the results of a study on the implementation of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) in a developing country. The purpose of this paper is to determine the barriers, critical success factors (CSFs) and implementation strategy of LSS. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative approach was taken, in which a multiple-case study designed to gather data on the LSS implementation process was used. Findings The literature and interviews show that any organization can customize these methodologies according to their needs. This also indicates that there are no stringent rules to follow, and that the process of adoption and implementation is quite flexible. The findings from the multiple-case study identify that the CSFs for implementing LSS are management support and commitment, communication, culture change, education and training and a recognition and reward system. The salient features which serve as barriers are lack of top management commitment, lack of knowledge, lack of training, and internal resistance. Practical implications The findings have implications for consultants and practitioners with regard to the implementation of LSS within organizations and to focus on the selection LSS tools for implementation. Originality/value This paper reports on the implementation of LSS in Malaysia can be valuable to consultants, practitioners and researchers of LSS in developing countries.
