In Late Bronze Age diplomatic correspondence, vassals attempt to demonstrate their loyalty by declaring they would carry out any command of the king even if it is self-destructive. A critical aspect of these exchanges is that the seemingly harmful order was never meant to be fulfilled. The exaggerated offer to undergo needless suffering was sufficient proof that the subaltern was an arad kitti, or ‘faithful servant’. This rhetorical dynamic, wherein the ‘deferential gesture’ is enough to satisfy a seemingly overwrought demand, has relevance for evaluating components of the divine decree in Genesis 22, that Abraham deliver up his son ‘as a burnt offering’, his willingness to carry out its dictates, and the heavenly overlord’s ultimately setting aside its execution. The author suggests that the biblical episode was a symbolic ritual enacted between the deity and patriarch, whose intent was to exalt Abraham as the arad kitti, par excellence, and to demonstrate that God was the most trustworthy of suzerains.

The Persian defeat at the Granicus opened the way for the Macedonian conquest of Asia Minor. Darius III assigned the defense of the coast to Memnon of Rhodes, whose brother Mentor had been an efficient and faithful servant of Artaxerxes III. Hellespontine Phrygia (Dascyleum), whose unsuccessful satrap had committed suicide, was the first Achaemenid satrapy annexed by the Conqueror. On the coast, would-be defectors were hesitant, weighing the chances of the Macedonians against the forces of Memnon. But Miletus fell, and Halicarnassus succumbed to a lengthy siege, despite the fact that Alexander had disbanded his fleet; Ada of Halicarnassus was reinstated as ruler of Caria, and Alexander led a portion of the army into Lycia and Pamphylia. After a victorious campaign there, he reunited with the forces under Parmenion, who had been in winter quarters. In late spring news arrived of Memnon’s death, and the Macedonian annexed Phrygia before moving to Cappadocia and Cilicia. There the Conqueror expected to encounter Darius for what he hoped would be the decisive battle of the campaign.

Zurkani Jahja told about al-Asma al-Husna that shows Gods action is the dominant to themoral and spiritual implications, the Sufism approach that he used in accordance with al-Ghazali in his al-Maqsd. Zurkani used simple and easy explanation, it is because he wrote al-Asma al-Husna in a tabloidthen booked, his expectation was the people to behave like the personality of God limited his ability. In Act II, scene iv of Shakespeare's Henry VIII, Queen Catherine is confronted by the start of divorce proceedings against her. One of the two cardinals delegated as judges by the pope is Henry's faithful servant, Cardinal Wolsey, a man little likely to be an impartial judge of the legal merits of the famous case. And so the Queen says to him:I do believeInduced by potent circumstances, that You are mine enemy, and make my challenge You shall not be my judge.Shakespeare does not today enjoy a wide reputation as a canonist, but he has here described with some correctness the canonical recusatio. This is the right, under certain circumstances, to challenge and remove a papal judge delegate for interest, prejudice, or unfitness for office.
