Abstract CYCLOPS L6 is an oil-hardening tool steel recommended for any tool-steel application requiring relatively great toughness, or where intricate shapes preclude the use of water-hardening steels. It is also recommended for machine parts and other components that require an excellent combination of hardness, wear resistance, compressive strength and toughness. Typical applications include dies of various types, arbors, punches, pinions, shear blades and clutch parts. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-375. Producer or source: Cyclops Corporation.

Abstract COLUMBIA S6 is a silicon-manganese shock-resisting tool steel with fairly high hardenability. It offers superior toughness and wear resistance when compared to conventional shock-resisting steels heat treated to Rockwell C 54 to 56. For optimum strength and toughness, parts should be tempered within the range 400 to 600 F. Among its many applications are shear blades, punches, hand chisels and pneumatic tools. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-445. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.

Abstract Crucible CPM Rex 54 HS is a cobalt-bearing high speed tool steel that is produced by the proprietary Crucible Particle Metallurgy (CPM) process. It combines the wear properties of the popular high vanadium M4 grade with the red hardness of the cobalt-bearing M35/Crucible CPM Rex 45 HS grades. Crucible CPM Rex 54 HS may be used as an upgrade for improved red hardness over M3 or M4 without giving up the abrasion resistance, or as an upgrade for improved wear resistance over M35 or Crucible CPM Rex 45 HS without giving up the red hardness. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, microstructure, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on wear resistance as well as heat treating and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-818. Producer or source: Crucible Industries LLC.

Abstract BUSTER ALLOY 60 is a widely accepted tungsten shock-resisting tool steel. Its performance is unequalled in most shock and impact tools used under very demanding conditions. It is deep hardening and combines this quality with excellent wear resistance and good toughness. Buster Alloy 60 will withstand repeated heating to 700-800 F, when used in lower temperature hot-work applications. Among its many uses are shear blades, hand chisels, pneumatic tools, coining dies, hot-heading dies, forging dies and machine parts. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-455. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.

Abstract NDS is an oil-hardening steel for use in tools, dies and machine parts requiring a good combination of hardness, toughness, and wear resistance. The relatively large percentage of nickel contained in this grade produces an alloy with greater toughness than the standard oil-hardening types while retaining the necessary hardness and wear resistance. NDS is well suited for cold-work applications requiring this extra toughness. Such applications include punches, dies and cold-forming rolls. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-423. Producer or source: Latrobe Steel Company.
