Fellhanera scottii is described as a new corticolous lichen from Bermuda. This new species is characterized by its aeruginose excipulum and curious substrate, growing on stilt roots of Rhizophora mangle.

Fungi of the genus Phytophthora were found to be associated with the initial stages of leaf litter decay of Rhizophora mangle L. and other Rhizophora species in estuarine and coastal marine waters. Phytophthora appears to be an important component of red-mangrove litter degradation systems throughout the tropics, which includes the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. The distributions of Phytophthora vesicula Anastasiou et Churchland and four new species of Phytophthora are discussed, as well as their occurrence in other tropical marine allochthonous spermatophytic leaf litter. The descriptions of the new species and varieties, Phytophthora bahamensis, P. epistomium, P. mycoparasitica, P. spinosa var. spinosa, and P. spinosa var. lobata, are presented.Pythium was rarely observed in the mangrove litter system, although one species, Pythium grandisporangium sp.nov., is described.

Collections of filamentous higher marine fungi in Martinique (French Antilles) resulted in a list of 20 species, 18 of which are new records for this island. New species are Ceriosporopsis capillacea Kohlm., sp.nov. (Martinique) and Remispora crispa Kohlm., sp.nov. (Hawaii, Liberia, Martinique). Substrates include leaves and rhizomes of Thalassia testudinum, pneumatophores of Avicennia germinans, prop roots of Rhizophora mangle, roots of Hibiscus tiliaceus, and intertidal and subtidal wood of unidentified hosts. A distinctive mycota appears to exist in subtidal habitats. The separation of marine fungi into the following groups is discussed: obligate intertidal species, facultative inter- or subtidal species, obligate subtidal species, and deep-sea species.

A new neotropical genus and species of soft scale insect from Cuba, Hamonicoccus Mestre and Kondo gen. nov. is described and Hamonicoccus alayoi Mestre and Kondo sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Coccidae) is described and illustrated based on the adult female. The species was collected in Cayos de las Cinco Leguas, Matanzas Province, on Capparis cynophallophora (Capparaceae), and in Surgidero de Batabanó, Mayabeque Province, on Rhizophora mangle (Rhizophoraceae). The affinities of H alayoi sp. nov. with closely related species is discussed based on published literature. An updated list of soft scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccidae) known from Cuba is provided.

Bactrospora cozumelensis is described as a new species associated with mangrove forests in Cozumel Island, Mexico. The specimens were collected on Rhizophora mangle bark in Punta Sur Ecological Park, Cozumel Island Biosphere Reserve, Quintana Roo, Mexico. This species is characterized by an erumpent to sessile apothecium, laterally carbonized excipulum, and 3-septate ascospores that are slightly constricted in the middle.
