Purely descriptive knowledge appears to have a structure that can be formalized using the newly developed tool of dynamic knowledge representation, the event bush. In its framework, a singular biography can be transformed into a knowledge-based system with an opportunity of creation of a database. However, the very approach to the database design may undergo quite a change thereafter. This change may concern the concept of primary key, composition of data scheme, and other fundamental issues of database design.

The major aim of the chapter is to propose and study the use of ontology-based optimization for positioning websites in search engines. In this sense, using heterogeneous inductive learning techniques and ontology for knowledge representation, a knowledge-based system which is capable of supporting the activity of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) has been designed and implemented. From its knowledge base, the system suggests the most appropriate optimization tasks for positioning a pair (keyword, website) on the first page of search engines and infers the positioning results to be obtained. The system evolution and learning capacity allows optimizing the productivity and effectiveness of the SEO process.

This paper starts with an analysis of the need for knowledge based engineering (KBE) system based on typical domain-specific engineering products. It looks back the history of KBE and exams the general structure of KBE systems. It then reviews the current development, particularly the knowledge representation in a KBE system, followed by a discussion of the shortcomings regarding to the maintenance and excessive cost of integrations with other digital tools. Finally it recommends the characteristics of a genuine KBE system and the standardization of KBE applications, particularly the internal knowledge representation standards and knowledge-based system interface standards with CAx systems and PLM solutions.
