This study present an inventory of the genera of Odonata-Anisoptera in lotic environments of the Iguatemi River basin, upper Paraná River, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. Samplings were performed from December 2006 to February 2009 in the Iguatemi River and eight streams of the basin. We collected 739 immature Odonata, distributed in 25 genera and three families; of which one genus represent a new record for the Mato Grosso do Sul State. Progomphus, Tramea, Elasmotemis, Macrothemis, Aphyla and Phylocycla were the most representative genera in the Iguatemi River basin. The genus accumulation curve predicts an increase of new genera for the Iguatemi River basin.

Astyanax biotae é uma espécie originalmente descrita em um afluente do Rio Paranapanema, bacia do alto Paraná. Durante amostragens realizadas em drenagens dos rios Ivinhema e Verde, no sistema do alto Paraná, em Mato Grosso do Sul, exemplares de A. biotae foram coletados em cabeceiras de pequenos riachos e em lagoas de várzea, tanto em Unidades de Conservação como em áreas de agricultura intensiva. Os dados morfomerísticos de 20 indivíduos analisados foram similares aos da série-tipo. Exemplares testemunhos estão depositados nas coleções ictiológicas da UFMS (ZUFMS), UEMS (CPUEMS) e UNESP (DZSJRP). Com base nos critérios da IUCN, sugerimos sua classificação como Menos Preocupante (LC) no estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, considerando principalmente a inexistência de ameaças efetivas em duas das áreas de ocorrência da espécie, situadas dentro de Unidades de Conservação. No entanto, reforçamos a urgência em medidas para a proteção das regiões de cabeceiras de riachos, a fim de evitar o aumento do desmatamento, assoreamento e poluição agrícola, problemas recorrentes no Cerrado, que comprometem severamente a manutenção desses hábitats e suas espécies. É necessário investir em estudos sobre a biologia da espécie e ampliar as amostragens, buscando diminuir os vazios amostrais ainda existentes nas drenagens estaduais.

Herein we report the second record for Leporinus tigrinus in the Upper Paraná River basin, based on two specimens collected during field studies at Sucuriú River, Mato Grosso do Sul State and two specimens from Claro River, Goiás State. These records extend the species’ distribution in approximately 500 km southwards from the first record in Corumbá dam area, Goiás State. Moreover, we discuss whether the species is native in the Upper Paraná River basin.

Abstract: In order to inventory the species richness and fish fauna composition along the Ivinhema river basin, 232 stretches of rivers and streams were sampled from 2000 to 2018, using a rectangular sieve, trawls, gillnets, cast nets, and electrofishing. A total of 141 species was caught in the basin, including seven orders and 35 families. For the recorded species, 42 are from the upper Paraná river, 51 from lower Paraná river, 27 from other basins, two from other continents, and the origin for 19 species are unknown/not reported. Six species are registred for the first time in the upper Paraná river basin: Astyanax abramis, Moenkhausia oligolepis, Serrapinnus kriegi, Curimatopsis myersi, Pyxiloricaria menezesi, and Cichlasoma dimerus. This is the first complete survey of the ichthyofauna in lotic environments along the whole Ivinhema river basin, containing relevant information for comparing studies and serving as reference data that can contribute to the management and implementation of politics for conservation of the basin. This survey also increases 24 species on the list of the most complete inventory in the upper Paraná river published in 2007.

Astyanax lineatus was previously known only from the Paraguay river basin and we report the first record from the Paraná river basin near the municipality of Sidrolândia, Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil. The species was found in Lajeado Stream, a tributary of the Anhanduí River, which belongs to the Pardo River sub-basin of the Paraná river basin.

In this paper we register the first occurrence of Bosmina huaroensis Delachaux, 1918 in the upper Paraná River basin, which is probably the first record to Brazil. Illustrations and an updated description of the species are given.

In this paper, nine species of Monogenea were recorded parasitizing the gills of Hoplias aff. malabaricus from the Upper Paraná River. The host were collected by gillnets in different regions to the Upper Paraná River Floodplain between March 2010 and March 2011. The parasites were quantified, fixed and preserved according with specialized literature. All hosts analyzed were parasitized by monogeneans. The monogeneans species were recorded Urocleidoides malabaricusi, U. cuiabai, U. eremitus, U. brasiliensis, Cosmetocleithrum bulbocirrus, Vancleaveus janauacaensis, Anacanthorus sp., Dactylogyridae gen. sp. and Dactylogyridae gen. 1. sp.

Cyclopid copepods from samples of fauna associated with aquatic macrophytes and plancton obtained in lotic and lentic environments were obtained from the upper Paraná River floodplain (in the states of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil). Macrophytes were collected in homogeneous stands and washed. Plankton samples, taken from the water column surface and bottom, were obtained using a motor pump, with a 70 mum mesh plankton net for filtration. Twelve taxa of Cyclopidae were identified. Among them, Macrocyclops albidus albidus, Paracyclops chiltoni, Ectocyclops rubescens, Homocyclops ater, Eucyclops solitarius, Mesocyclops longisetus curvatus, Mesocyclops ogunnus, and Microcyclops finitimus were new finds for this floodplain. Eight species were recorded exclusively in aquatic macrophyte samples. Among these species, M. albidus albidus and M. finitimus presented greatest abundances. Only four species were recorded in plankton samples, and Thermocyclops minutus and Thermocyclops decipiens are limited to this type of habitat. Among these four species, T. minutus is the most abundant, especially in lentic habitats.

Cladocera communities were studied in lotic and lentic environments of the Upper Paraná River floodplain, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. A total of 63 species of Cladocera were identified in 108 samples. Of these, 24 species are considered new records for that floodplain, and one is a new record for Brazil. Chydoridae was the most representative family with 19 genera and 39 species.
