ABSTRACTDispersion-strengthened nickel aluminide NiAl was synthesized by reactive mechanical alloying from elemental powders. The microstructure and creep properties of these materials was compared for two cases: (i) NiAl-Mo, where dispersoids are in the form of a ductile, metallic phase and (ii) NiAl- Mo2C, where the dispersoids are a brittle, ceramic phase. Also, the effect of annealing treatments which coarsened both matrix grains and dispersoids was investigated. Inhibited diffusional creep is identified as the rate-controlling creep mechanism.
