ABSTRACT The term ‘solitary bone cyst’ defines several lesions such as simple bone cyst, hemorrhagic cyst, traumatic bone cyst, and idiopathic bone cavity. Solitary bone cysts are not true cysts, they lack an epithelial lining and their etiology is uncertain. Solitary bone cysts are common lesions affecting long bones and less frequently, the jaws, especially the mandible. Lesions usually presents a typical radiographic appearance. The goal of this paper is to report a case of a solitary bone cyst in a 19-yearold female mimicking multiloculer benign neoplasm and review the literature. The lesion was treated by surgical curettage. No additional treatment, such as a surgical reconstruction or bone graft was needed. How to cite this article Fındık Y, Baykul T, Bülte M. Simple bone cyst is a typical cavitated injury which appears between the ages of 5 and 15 and is usually located in long bones’ metaphysis. It is limited by a membrane and filled with liquid, being considered a pseudocyst. The cyst is diagnosed as a casual finding in radiological tests as well as for causing pain or pathological fractures.Different aetiologies and pathogenies are postulated, of which sine or venous blockage with increased intracameral pressure is considered to be the most probable.The traditional treatment has been surgical curing and bone filling, with new less invasive techniques such as corticosteroid injection and cyst drainage recently appearing with good results. In this article we present a large simple bone cyst at the proximal end of the femur treated by intracavity puncture of corticosteroids.

Simple bone cyst (SBC) of the jaws is uncommon, representing approximately 1% of all jaw cysts. It is often accidentally discovered on routine dental examination as it is asymptomatic in most of cases. In this report, we discuss a case of SBC in a 16 years old female who presented in our department for correction of her mal-aligned teeth. On routine x-ray for orthodontic treatment, a well defined, unilocular radiolucent area approximately 3x1cm in size with scalloped borders on the left body of mandible expanding from distal surface of 34 to distal surface of 37 was discovered. Surgical exploration was required for both diagnostic and definitive treatment. The operative finding was hollow cavity without any epithelial lining.
