Coronary artery bypass grafting is the most studied and evaluated therapy in medical history. Part of this evaluation has included the careful modelling of the specific risks and benefits of coronary artery bypass graft intervention in stable ischaemic heart disease and acute coronary syndromes. Risk models allow the prediction of mortality and morbidity after surgery and the most widely used models in coronary artery bypass grafting worldwide are EuroSCORE II and the STS models. In this chapter, the current status of risk modelling in coronary artery bypass grafting is discussed, along with a view of future challenges and anticipated successes.
