William Brownell had a distinguished career as a mathematics educator, arithmetic textbook writer, and educational researcher. He was an active member of NCTM and many other professional organizations and served for some years as Director of the National Society for the Study of Education and as president of AERA in 1938.

Henry W Hofstetter, OD, PhD, had a long and distinguished career as an optometric educator, writer, researcher, administrator, and leader.  This biographical sketch examines his life and career, and notes his role in fostering the study and understanding of optometry’s history, as exemplified by his work as co-founder of the Optometric Historical Society and long-time editor of its quarterly publication, Hindsight.

lf there were an award for researchers whose efforts have provided extraordinary benefit to mathematics teachers, there is no doubt that Glenadine Gibb would have received it at some point during her career. An active member of NCTM who served as president of the Council from 1974 to 1976. Gibb was a visionary—ahead of her times in many of her research and service endeavors.
