A numerical method is proposed to approximate the numeric solutions of nonlinear Fisher’s reaction diffusion equation with finite difference method. The method is based on replacing each terms in the Fisher’s equation using finite difference method. The proposed method has the advantage of reducing the problem to a nonlinear system, which will be derived and solved using Newton method. FTCS and CN method will be introduced, compared and tested.

Abstract In this work, we study the (2 + 1)-dimensional Date-Jimbo-Kashiwara-Miwa (DJKM) equation. We employ the extended tanh function method and the simple equation method to achieve analytical soliton solutions. Moreover, numerical treatment for this equation is introduced by the finite difference method. We justify the accuracy of the obtained results by exhibiting illustrative tables and proper graphs.

The purpose of the paper is to apply two methods to groundwater pollution in porous media. The methods are the weighted finite difference method and the boundary element method, which were proposed or developed by Kanoh et al. (1986,1988) for advective diffusion problems. Numerical modeling of groundwater pollution is also investigated in this paper. By subdividing the domain into subdomains, the nonlinearity is localized to a small region. Computational time for groundwater pollution problems can be saved by the boundary element method; accurate numerical results can be obtained by the weighted finite difference method. The computational solutions to the problem of seawater intrusion into coastal aquifers are compared with experimental results.
