An intriguing feature which is often present in theorems regardingthe exponentiation of Lie algebras of unbounded linear operators onBanach spaces is the assumption of hypotheses on the Laplacianoperator associated with a basis of the operator Lie algebra. The main objective of this work is to show that one can substitutethe Laplacian by an arbitrary operator in the enveloping algebra andstill obtain exponentiation, as long as its closure generates astrongly continuous one-parameter semigroup satisfying certain normestimates, which are typical in the theory of strongly ellipticoperators.

Abstract The characterization of the points in C p : 1 ≤ p < ∞ ( ℋ ) {C}_{p{:}_{1\le p\lt \infty }}\left({\mathcal{ {\mathcal H} }}) , the Von Neuman-Schatten p-classes, that are orthogonal to the range of elementary operators has been done for certain kinds of elementary operators. In this paper, we shall study this problem of characterization on an abstract reflexive, smooth and strictly convex Banach space for arbitrary operator. As an application, we consider other kinds of elementary operators defined on the spaces C p : 1 ≤ p < ∞ ( ℋ ) {C}_{p{:}_{1\le p\lt \infty }}\left({\mathcal{ {\mathcal H} }}) , and finally, we give a counterexample to Mecheri’s result given in this context.

Abstract Conjecture 4 of Voiculescu implies that almost normal operators must satisfy a Fuglede-Putnam theorem, namely [T∗, X] is a Hilbert-Schmidt operator whenever [T, X] is in the same class for an arbitrary operator X. In this note, a partial answer to this question is given, namely when X ∈ 𝓒4, the Fuglede-Putnam theorem holds.

In this note, some operator inequalities for operator means and positive linear maps are investigated. The conclusion based on operator means is presented as follows: Let ? : B(H) ? B(K) be a strictly positive unital linear map and h-1 IH ? A ? h1IH and h-12 IH ? B ? h2IH for positive real numbers h1, h2 ? 1. Then for p > 0 and an arbitrary operator mean ?, (?(A)??(B))p ? ?p?p(A?*B), where ?p = max {?2(h1,h2)/4)p, 1/16?2p(h1,h2)}, ?(h1h2) = (h1 + h-1 1)?(h2 + h-12). Likewise, a p-th (p ? 2) power of the Diaz-Metcalf type inequality is also established.

Abstract There are just a few general criteria on spaceability. This survey paper is the history of one of the first ones. Let I1 and I2 be arbitrary operator ideals and E and F be Banach spaces. The spaceability of the set of operators I1(E, F)\ I2(E, F) is studied. Before stating the criterium, the paper summarizes the main results about lineability and spaceability of differences between particular operator ideals obtained in recent years. They are the seed of the ideas contained in the general criterium.

AbstractBuilding on results of Haagerup and Schultz, we decompose an arbitrary operator in a diffuse, finite von Neumann algebra into the sum of a normal operator and an s.o.t.-quasinilpotent operator. We also prove an analogue of Weyl's inequality relating eigenvalues and singular values for operators in a diffuse, finite von Neumann algebra.

Recently Kosaki proved an inequality for matrices that can be seen as a kind of new uncertainty principle. Independently, the same result was proved by Yanagi et al. The new bound is given in terms of Wigner–Yanase–Dyson informations. Kosaki himself asked if this inequality can be proved in the setting of von Neumann algebras. In this paper we provide a positive answer to that question and moreover we show how the inequality can be generalized to an arbitrary operator monotone function.

In this paper we deal with the theory of Hilbert–Schmidt operators, when the usual choice of orthonormal basis, on the associated Hilbert spaces, is replaced by frames. We More precisely, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for an operator to be Hilbert–Schmidt, based on its action on the elements of a frame (i.e. an operator T is [Formula: see text] if and only if the sum of the squared norms of T applied on the elements of the frame is finite). Also, we construct Bessel sequences, frames and Riesz bases of [Formula: see text] operators using tensor products of the same sequences in the associated Hilbert spaces. We state how the [Formula: see text] inner product of an arbitrary operator and a rank one operator can be calculated in an efficient way; and we use this result to provide a numerically efficient algorithm to find the best approximation, in the Hilbert–Schmidt sense, of an arbitrary matrix, by a so-called frame multiplier (i.e. an operator which act diagonally on the frame analysis coefficients). Finally, we give some simple examples using Gabor and wavelet frames, introducing in this way wavelet multipliers.
