The Hilbert curve of a complex polarized manifold [Formula: see text] is the complex affine plane curve of degree [Formula: see text] defined by the Hilbert-like polynomial [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is the canonical bundle of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are regarded as complex variables. A natural expectation is that this curve encodes several properties of the pair [Formula: see text]. In particular, the existence of a fibration of [Formula: see text] over a variety of smaller dimension induced by a suitable adjoint bundle to [Formula: see text] translates into the fact that the Hilbert curve has a quite special shape. Along this line, Hilbert curves of special varieties like Fano manifolds with low coindex, as well as fibrations over low-dimensional varieties having such a manifold as general fiber, endowed with appropriate polarizations, are investigated. In particular, several polarized manifolds relevant for adjunction theory are completely characterized in terms of their Hilbert curves.

Abstract Let X be a complex projective manifold, L an ample line bundle on X, and assume that we have a ℂ* action on (X;L). We classify such triples (X; L;ℂ*) for which the closure of a general orbit of the ℂ* action is of degree ≤ 3 with respect to L and, in addition, the source and the sink of the action are isolated fixed points, and the ℂ* action on the normal bundle of every fixed point component has weights ±1. We treat this situation by relating it to the classical adjunction theory. As an application, we prove that contact Fano manifolds of dimension 11 and 13 are homogeneous if their group of automorphisms is reductive of rank ≥ 2.

Abstract Given a differentially graded (DG)-category ${{\mathcal{A}}}$, we introduce the bar category of modules ${\overline{\textbf{{Mod}}}-{\mathcal{A}}}$. It is a DG enhancement of the derived category $D({{\mathcal{A}}})$ of ${{\mathcal{A}}}$, which is isomorphic to the category of DG ${{\mathcal{A}}}$-modules with ${A_{\infty }}$-morphisms between them. However, it is defined intrinsically in the language of DG categories and requires no complex machinery or sign conventions of ${A_{\infty }}$-categories. We define for these bar categories Tensor and Hom bifunctors, dualisation functors, and a convolution of twisted complexes. The intended application is to working with DG-bimodules as enhancements of exact functors between triangulated categories. As a demonstration, we develop a homotopy adjunction theory for tensor functors between derived categories of DG categories. It allows us to show in an enhanced setting that given a functor $F$ with left and right adjoints $L$ and $R$, the functorial complex $FR \xrightarrow{F{\operatorname{act}}{R}} FRFR \xrightarrow{FR{\operatorname{tr}} - {\operatorname{tr}}{FR}} FR \xrightarrow{{\operatorname{tr}}} {\operatorname{Id}}$ lifts to a canonical twisted complex whose convolution is the square of the spherical twist of $F$. We then write down four induced functorial Postnikov systems computing this convolution.

Let (X, L) be a quasi-polarized pair, i.e. X is a normal complex projective variety and L is a nef and big line bundle on it. We study, up to birational equivalence, the positivity (nefness) of the adjoint bundles KX + rL for high rational numbers r. For this we run a Minimal Model Program with scaling relative to the divisor KX + rL. We give then some applications, namely the classification up to birational equivalence of quasi-polarized pairs with sectional genus 0, 1 and of embedded projective varieties X ⊂ ℙN with degree smaller than 2 codim ℙN(X) + 2.
