Under irradiation with monochromatic light of λ ≤ 407 nm homogeneous hydrogenation of acrylic ethylester with the catalyst IrCl(CO)[P(i-C3H7)3]2 is much faster than in the dark reaction. Not the catalyst but the hydridocomplex is photochemically activated. With the sensitizer pentacene, photoactivation occurrs with visible light of λ ≤ 578 nm already.
