Pd(ii)–Ag(i) catalysed, highly efficient synthesis of diindolylmethanes under mild reaction conditions, with six new bonds being formed in a one-pot fashion, and the products being transformed into synthetically useful compounds.
Two diamond-shaped and partially fluorinated dehydrobenz[18]annulene macrocycles have been synthesized through a one-pot synthesis relying on fourfold Sonogashira coupling. Single crystal structures of the prepared macrocycles show continuous columnar stacks of these molecules that are mediated by the fluoroarene–alkyne, arene–alkyne, fluoroarene–fluoroarene, and alkyne–alkyne [π···π] interactions instead of the expected fluoroarene–arene [π···π] interaction.
Palladium-catalyzed copper-free Sonogashira coupling of 2-bromocarbonyls is presented. This method afforded the 2-alkynylaryl carbonyls, useful synthons for the accomplishment of many carbocyclic and heterocyclic motifs. Significantly, the strategy was extended to the one-pot synthesis of isobenzofurans via reduction followed by intramolecular 5-exo-dig cyclization.
