Examples of Spectral Analysis of Dynamical Systems

Η εργασία αυτή μελετά μη-γραμμικά στάσιμα και εξελικτικά προβλήματα κάνοντας χρήση μεθόδων της Συναρτησιακής Ανάλυσης. Λόγω της εκφυλισμένης φύσης των εξισώσεων αλλά και της ύπαρξης μη συμπαγών τελεστών για τη μελέτη των στάσιμων προβλημάτων χρησιμοποιούνται Χώροι Lebesque και Sobolev με Βάρος (Weighted Lebesque and Sobolev Spaces). Για τα μεν στάσιμα προβλήματα, στόχος είναι η απόδειξη ύπαρξης πρωτεύοντος ιδιοζεύγους χρησιμοποιώντας μεταβολικές και άλλες μεθόδους της Φασματικής Ανάλυσης (spectral analysis) καθώς και η απόδειξη ύπαρξης 'θετικού κλάδου Τοπικής και Ολικής Διακλάδωσης με τη βοήθεια των μεταβολικών μεθόδων (variational methods) και της Θεωρίας Τοπολογικού Βαθμού (topological degree). Στη συνέχεια η μελέτη επεκτείνεται σε εξελικτικά προβλήματα, όπου στόχο αποτελεί η απόδειξη ύπαρξης και μοναδικότητας ολικής λύσης για ένα εξελικτικό σύστημα τύπου Klein-Gordon-Schrödinger και η απόδειξη ύπαρξης ενός συμπαγούς, αναλλοίωτου υποσύνολου του χώρου φάσεων (ολικός ελκυστής) (Global Attractor), το οποίο έλκει ομοιόμορφα όλες τις τροχιές, για δεδομένες αρχικές συνθήκες σε ένα φραγμένο σύνολο με τη βοήθεια της Θεωρίας των Απειροδιάστατων Δυναμικών Συστημάτων (Dynamical Systems Theory). AbstractWe present a method, based on commutator methods, for the spectral analysis of uniquely ergodic dynamical systems. When applicable, it leads to the absolute continuity of the spectrum of the corresponding unitary operators. As an illustration, we consider time changes of horocycle flows, skew products over translations and Furstenberg transformations. For time changes of horocycle flows we obtain absolute continuity under assumptions weaker than those to be found in the literature, and for skew products over translations and Furstenberg transformations we obtain countable Lebesgue spectrum under assumptions not previously covered in the literature.

Contact Shape

Dynamical systems with contacts are often exposed to wear even under small loads. The wear develops at the micro, macro or global level and changes the contact shape. This changed contact shape alters the dynamics of the system and can further increase the wear. This research presents a numerical investigation of the interaction between the wear at the contacts and the dynamics. The research involves a dynamical model normally used in the research of car-brake dynamics and simulates the run-in wear of the brake pad and the development of waviness on disc. Special attention is given to the real roughness of the contacting surfaces and to on exact numerical simulation; because concurrent contacts between rough asperities occur, a specifically developed multibody dynamics approach is presented. This research shows that after the run-in period a concave pad produces a waviness pattern on the disc. Using a spectral analysis of the disc’s surface it is possible to show the effect of the wear particle-size and the pad-width on the surface waviness.
