In order to improve the efficiency of conformance checking in business process management, a business alignment approach is presented based on transition systems between relation matrices and Petri nets. Firstly, a log-based relation matrix of the events is obtained according to the event log. Then, the events in the relation matrix are observed and the transitions in the model are firing, and the activities in the log and in the model are compared. Next, the states of the log and the model are recorded until no new state can be generated, so a transition system can be obtained which includes optimal alignments between the event log and the process model. Finally, two detailed algorithms are presented to obtain an optimal alignment and all optimal alignments between the trace and the model based on the given cost function, respectively. The availability and effectiveness of the proposed approach are proved theoretically.

Due to the absence of commonly accepted conceptual and formal foundations for workflow management, and more generally Business Process Management (BPM), a plethora of approaches to process modelling and execution exists both in academia and in industry. The introduction of workflow patterns provided a deep and language independent understanding of modelling issues and requirements encountered in business process specification. They provide a comparative insight into various approaches to process specification and serve as guidance for language and tool development. YAWL (Yet Another Workflow Language) is a novel and formally defined workflow language based on workflow patterns and Petri nets, thus leveraging off both practical and theoretical insights in the field of BPM. This chapter provides an overview of this language and its corresponding open source support environment.

W artykule przedstawiono istotę i zasady oceny dojrzałości procesowej przedsiębiorstw oraz rolę modeli dojrzałości w podnoszeniu efektywności organizacji w kontekście paradygmatu Business Process Management. Zasadniczym celem poznawczym artykułu jest określenie zasad oceny dojrzałości według modelu CMMI oraz prezentacja nakładów i efektów wynikających z wdrożenia tego modelu.
