Femtocell networks have been proposed for indoor communications as the extension of cellular networks for enhancing coverage performance. Because femtocells have small coverage radius, typically from 15 to 30 meters, a femtocell user (FU) walking at low speed can still make several femtocell-to-femtocell handovers during its connection. When performing a femtocell-to-femtocell handover, femtocell selection used to select the target handover femtocell has to be able not only to reduce unnecessary handovers and but also to support FU’s quality of service (QoS). In the paper, we propose a femtocell selection scheme for femtocell-tofemtocell handover, named Mobility Prediction and Capacity Estimation based scheme (MPCE-based scheme), which has the advantages of the mobility prediction and femtocell’s available capacity estimation methods. Performance results obtained by computer simulation show that the proposed MPCE-based scheme can reduce unnecessary femtocell-tofemtocell handovers, maintain low data delay and improve the throughput of femtocell users. Aqueous organic redox flow batteries (AORFBs) have become increasing attractive for scalable energy storage. However, it remains challenging to develop high voltage, powerful AORFBs because of the lack of catholytes with high redox potential. Herein, we report methyl viologen dibromide (<b>[MV]Br2</b>) as a facile self-trapping, bipolar redox electrolyte material for pH neutral redox flow battery applications. The formation of the <b>[MV](Br3)2</b> complex was computationally predicted and experimentally confirmed. The low solubility <b>[MV](Br3)2</b> complex in the catholyte during the battery charge process not only mitigates the crossover of charged tribromide species (Br3-) and addresses the toxicity concern of volatile bromine simultaneously. A 1.53 V bipolar MV/Br AORFB delivered outstanding battery performance at pH neutral conditions, specifically, 100% total capacity retention, 133 mW/cm2 power density, and 60% energy efficiency at 40 mA/cm2.

AbstractLa Parrilla is a tungsten and tin mine located in western Spain. The tailings facility has a total capacity for 3 Mm3 and will be executed in four different phases. The main constraint for the design and construction of the tailings dam is that it has been constructed over an existing one from the 1980s. The construction activities involved removal and substitution of the old tailings from the southern portion of the facility, ground improvement with gravel columns over an area of about 10,000 m2, and construction of the dyke’s dam. This article describes the main design and construction aspects, including monitoring, until the dam’s completion in June 2019.
