Degenerative changes, atherosclerotic process and calcification of valvular leaflets are mostly responsible for valvular aortic valve stenosis, but congenital bicuspid aortic valve and rheumatic fever in history are also known predisposing factors. Aortic valve stenosis is frequently associated with different functional vascular alterations.
