The Untoward Effect of Neglected Cataracts: Phacomorphic Glaucoma

That rubeola exerts a deleterious effect on unhealed tuberculosis is generally accepted. In this report, intercurrent measles appeared to cause no untoward effect in five patients with tuberculous meningitis, already receiving therapy consisting of isoniazid, streptomycin and para-aminosalicylic acid.

We were gratified to see our experience with the effectiveness of oral neomycin therapy in reducing the levels of MMA in methylmalonic acidemia confirmed by Duran, Bakker, Wadman and van Sprang, and were, of course, distressed to learn of any possible untoward effect in their small patient. We should like to point out, however, that the acidosis of neomycin therapy reported by Asatoor is mild, and is a function of the loss of extra bicarbonate in a more voluminous stool.
