In this comment we present an improvement of our recent proposal [Int. J. Mod. Phys.B12, 1495 (1998)] to generate a generalized superposition of two coherent states. The basic idea here is to use a dispersive atom-field interaction together with a single atom quantum state engineering.

We present our model to teleport an unknown quantum state using entanglement between two distant parties. Our model takes into account experimental limitations due to contribution of multi-photon pair production of parametric down conversion source, inefficiency, dark counts of detectors, and channel losses. We use a linear optics setup for quantum teleportation of an unknown quantum state by the sender performing a Bell state measurement. Our theory successfully provides a model for experimentalists to optimize the fidelity by adjusting the experimental parameters. We apply our model to a recent experiment on quantum teleportation and the results obtained by our model are in good agreement with the experimental results.

The design of semiconductor intersubband lasers using quantum state engineering based on electromagnetic analogies is a relatively new area. There has been little systematic effort in this direction as yet. The use of these analogies allows laser researchers to apply tools and methodologies found in the mature field of electromagnetic optics. The purpose of this paper is to describe the procedures by which intersubband quantum-well semiconductor lasers (or detectores) may be designed using these methodologies.
