The objective of this paper is to analyze the external environment of the Ivorian banking sector to identify relevant factors that may affect it somehow. To do so, we use the Political, Economic, Socio-cultural, Technological and Legal (PESTL) basic framework as inspiration to implement our analytical process. We conduct our analysis by looking at factual elements and secondary data collected from trustworthy institutions. On the one hand, it appears that Côte d’Ivoire is a well-positioned country with numerous endowments, important investments opportunities, and a relatively open market. Banks can take advantage of the country’s development trend by managing and channeling the inflow of money. On the other hand, socio-political unrests, regional issues, and corruption are threats. Moreover, the strategic role of this country seems to be a significant factor to consider in relation to competition, political actions, and bank regulation.

Indian banking system is saddled with bad loans which have resulted in huge losses. Profitability remains a concern due to the rise of NPAs. Investors should not expect high reporting profits from banks due to the ascending provision of the NPAs. Banks are not performing well and they may not be much efficient due to the rise of NPAs daily. Using data envelopment analysis, the present study intends to assess technical efficiency of banks. As the requirement of homogeneity is fulfilled, the input oriented CCR model is applied. The study finds that the number of efficient banks has shortened and the average overall technical efficiency of selected banks moves downward throughout the study period. It also reveals that the inefficiency is mostly due to the upward trend of NPAs. Asset quality plays the most crucial role toward the performance of banking sector. Thus, banks and regulators should control the upward trend of NPAs to enhance the efficiency level.

The rainfall and temperature conditions are evaluated for the first time during the 1989–2006 period, in six main cocoa production areas (Abengourou, Agboville, Daloa, Dimbokro, Guiglo, and Soubre) of Côte d’Ivoire using data from SODEXAM (ground-based observation) and the ex-CAISTAB. Statistical analysis shows an important sensitivity of cocoa production to rainfall conditions in all regions. It is worth noting that only the major rainy season from April to July and the rainfall amount of the little dry season from August to September affect the cocoa production for an 80% confidence level. This influence varies from one cacao production area to another. Moreover, the effects related to temperature on the cocoa yield seem to represent a smaller contribution of climate impact than those related to precipitation during the studied period. The temperature change remains in the acceptable range of values, between 25°C and 29°C, which is a favorable condition for cocoa growing. These findings are obtained despite the significant contributions from nonclimatic factors, to year-to-year variability in cocoa production.

Unlike the other two components of the financial trinity savings and insurance, the demand for credit has been the subject of much work. Using data from the household standards of living survey in Côte d'Ivoire (ENV2015), we use two logit models to identify the determinants of demand for credit and savings in rural Ivorian. Our work shows that the social, economic and demographic characteristics of the household and its head are significant determinants of demand for those services. The study revealed that each of these two services is a significant determinant of the other. Following this first analysis, we have identified the typical profiles of households with the highest and lowest probabilities of access to savings and credit. Finally, the gender approach of this study has shown that unlike the number of men who has no influence on the demand for savings among households without access to credit, the number of women considerably increases the level of access to credit for households with or without access to savings. And that households led by a woman have a better access to credit.
