Normally the umbilical cord is inserted into the central portion of placenta; at times the cord is inserted distally from the margin; onto the fetal membranes, called velamentous insertion. After the insertion the umbilical vessels traverse unsupported for a variable distance between amnion and chorion before reaching the placenta. These vessels can get compressed and torn especially in labour resulting in acute fetal distress and at times fetal death. We report a case where the cause of fetal distress during labour was compression of these vessels. There is a strong case of finding out site of cord insertion when the antenatal cases are undergoing routine sonography. Once abnormal insertion is detected then these pregnancies should be monitored closely as the chances of both antenatal and intranatal complications are higher in such pregnancies.

The aim of this study was to describe the clinical, ultrasound and histological findings of hydrallantois in a Pug bitch. On the 56th day of pregnancy the patient presented pronounced abdominal distention, lethargy, anorexia and dyspnea. The ultrasound revealed the presence of abnormal fluid accumulation within the fetal membranes, especial in the allantois, which was incompatible with the 8th week of pregnancy in bitches. The macroscopic exam during the C-section, distention of the fetal membranes and accumulation of fluid within the allantois was observed. The precise amount of liquid could not be assessed due to the surgical procedure. All neonates of our case report were normal at the initial physical exam. The histologic exam revealed normal placenta. In conclusion, clinical and ultrasound assessment were able to diagnose hydrallantois in a canine patient.

AbstractBackground: A 24-year-old female had attempted suicide twice, at the age of 20 and 24, using tamoxifen.Case report: Subsequent to the first acute intoxication a development of bilateral ovarian cysts was observed. Cysts regressed spontaneously within 8 weeks. Five weeks after the second suicidal attempt, pregnant patient (15 weeks of gestation) was admitted to the hospital with vaginal bleeding and suspicion of miscarriage. The autopsy of the fetus did not reveal any gross abnormalities, whereas the microscopic examination demonstrated numerous foci of necrosis in the placental decidua. Other fetal membranes as well as the umbilical cord were normal.Conclusions:1.Acute intoxication with tamoxifen may be connected with the formation of follicular ovarian cysts.2.During pregnancy, intoxication with tamoxifen, may result in delayed miscarriage.
