Abstract:I present an analysis of feasibility that generalizes the economic concept of a production possibility frontier and develop a model of the feasibility frontier using the familiar possible worlds technology. I then use the model to show that we cannot reasonably expect that adopting political ideals as long-term reform objectives will guide us toward the realization of morally optimal feasible states of affairs. I conclude by proposing that political philosophers turn their attention to the analysis of actual social failures rather than political ideals.

The article considers the effects of technology on the level and composition of employment. Technological progress, by increasing the productivity of factors of production, expands an economy’s production possibility frontier but also decreases the number of existing workplaces. So the aim of the paper to consider the opportunities to the positive impact of the ICT on the labour market.

The supply and demand of ecosystem services are affected by land use. Only a few studies have conducted in-depth quantitative analyses. This study adopted the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region as the research area. The CLUMondo model was adopted to infer the land-use pattern under protection, development, and natural scenarios in 2035. Moreover, the InVEST model was utilized to evaluate carbon sequestration, water yield, and soil conservation under multiple land-use patterns. The production possibility frontier was drawn to visualize the trade-off relationship further. The trade-off intensity index was calculated to quantify the magnitude of the trade-off. (1) Under the development scenario, the accelerated expansion of urbanized land will occupy a large amount of arable and forest land, which should be planned and controlled. (2) The trade-off and synergistic relationships could be transformed under the different land-use scenarios. (3) The production possibility frontier curve for each ecosystem service trade-off and the optimal value of the trade-off configuration were plotted for the different scenarios. The trade-off intensity of ecosystem services was also calculated. This study combined ecosystem services with land-use regulations and revealed the link between ecosystem services and regional land-use pattern change. The aim is to provide a reference for the synergistic progress of the ecological economy in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region.

The purpose of this study is to examine relationship among returns to scale, returns to factors and the shape of the production possibility frontier under Cobb–Douglas production function. The study asks the following question: How can production possibility frontier be drawn (a) if returns to scale are constant, increasing and decreasing and (b) if returns to factors are constant, increasing and decreasing? The main finding of the study is as follows: When (a) returns to factors are constant or increasing or decreasing and (b) returns to scale (economies of scale internal to the firm) are constant or increasing or decreasing, the production possibility frontier can be bowed in or bowed out or be linear under certain conditions.
