A porous ZnRh2O4 electrode was fabricated by an electrophoretic deposition method on a fluorine-doped tin oxide substrate, and photoelectrochemical water splitting under visible light irradiation (λ > 420 nm) was performed.

An ultrathin amorphous ZnO layer is introduced on Cu2O by pulsed electrodeposition, which helps stabilise the Cu2O photocathode for water splitting.

Photocatalytic overall water splitting was achieved on a simple perovskite-type oxynitride CaTaO2N (B.G. = 2.43 eV) after the proper surface modification.
