A gluino can decay into a color-singlet neutral fermion [Formula: see text] by radiating off a gluon. We study this process in a minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. A significant branching fraction is possible depending on how much [Formula: see text] overlaps with the Higgs fermion which couples to the t quark and the mass of the t quark itself.

We investigate the signatures of leptoquarks or diquarks of the rank 5 E6 superstring model produced in [Formula: see text] and pp machines. Leptoquark decays are characterized by lack of e, μ universality [Formula: see text] and diquark decays by quark flavor non-conservation (e.g., [Formula: see text]). If the top quark is heavier than one of the scalar superpartners [Formula: see text], then it may decay dominantly by two body modes (e.g., [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text]), invalidating the usual signatures. Two body gluino decays [Formula: see text] may swamp its conventional signatures.

It is shown that, for a wide range of parameters, the dominant decays of gluinos with mass ≳500 GeV contain gauge bosons, W± and Z, among their decay products. The pair production of heavy gluinos at the SSC is thus characterized by events with 3–4 hard jets and pairs of gauge bosons. The cleanest signature comes from the case where both gluinos decay into Z followed by [Formula: see text] which leads to ~50–100 4-lepton + multijet events annually at the SSC. In addition, 1600 trilepton + multijet and about 6000 dilepton + multijet events may be expected from WZ and WW sources. The backgrounds to these signals are estimated to be small.
