Abstract A description is provided for Meliola panici var. olyrae. Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. DISEASE: Meliola panici var. olyrae can produce chlorotic zones under and around the colonies. It is also found on dry leaves, growing abundantly. The symptoms on the host and the growing form are demonstration that it is a very aggressive species. HOSTS: Aristida sp., Lithachne pauciflora, Olyra latifolia, Pharus parvifolius. GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Africa: Uganda. Caribbean: Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago. Central America: Costa Rica, Panamá. South America: Guyana. TRANSMISSION: By air-borne ascospores.
