The phases that must be completed so that a building damaged in earthquake that struck Zagreb on 22 March 2020 can be renovated and strengthened to the required level of seismic resistance are presented in the paper. All phases are therefore presented, starting from the rapid and then detailed inspection, and continuing with preparation of the structural condition assessment report, preparation of renovation design and, finally, ending with realisation of work with expert supervision. A special attention is paid to structural analysis that is conducted using a nonlinear static method based on displacements, the so called pushover analysis, which is considered to be one of the most appropriate methods for seismic analysis of existing masonry structures. All procedures conducted in the scope of this renovation were realised in accordance with legislation that entered into force after the earthquake.

The article proposes a technique for taking into account the higher vibration modes under seismic resistance estimation of multi-story steel frames by nonlinear static method. The characteristic point search has also been improved. As part of the study, the proposed method was verified by time history analysis. Proposed technique allows one to significantly reduce the calculation time, while excluding the deficit of seismic resistance.

The article presents higher vibration modes accounting method to evaluate system seismic resistance by nonlinear static method. As part of the study, in order to verify the proposed method for finding the inertial forces modified system series of dynamic and static calculations was performed. Proposed inertial forces modified system can be applied for seismic resistance estimation of system with elastomeric supports. The results difference varies within 12%.

By studying the structure of vulnerability analysis and abroad , on their respective merits and defects were compared and analyzed to select the best of vulnerability research methods. Combined with the existing building characteristics, the nonlinear static method on both the vulnerability analysis of old buildings also applicable conclusions. Effective solution to the existing buildings under earthquake disaster risk assessment.
