Glycogenolytic Effect

In the paper by Dr. A. Coimbra entitled "Evaluation of the Glycogenolytic Effect of α-Amylase Using Radioautography and Electron Microscopy" which appeared in the December issue of the Journal (Vol. 14, pp. 898-906, 1966), the correct figures for page 901, first column, last paragraph, should read, "Saliva (Figs. 4 and 8)..." On page 903, for Figure 9, the last sentence of the legend should read "Grains were counted over 10 areas."

The Subject

The December issue of Pediatrics (1985;76:993-997) carried a commentary by Dr Ray Helfer relating to the 25th Anniversary of the recognition of child abuse as a specific and identifiable entity. In one paragraph of this article (p 995) one would have to draw the conclusion that the subject of child abuse has been the object of an unfortunate neglect by the American Academy of Pediatrics. For the benefit of our membership and others who have reason to be concerned by this allegation, we feel the necessity to set the record straight.

As president of California Strolee, Inc, I am writing in response to the article in your December issue (Pediatrics 64:848, 1979) entitled, "Children's Car Seat Restraints: When Top-Tether Straps are Ignored, Are the Restraints Safe?" by Quentin McDonald. To say we were shocked that a prestigious scientific journal such as yours would print such a biased, irresponsible and self-serving document is truly an understatement. First and foremost, let us set the record straight. The tests cited in the article were commissioned by the Bobby Mac Company (a small manufacturer of infant restraint systems).

In the abstract "Arterial Hypertension" in the December issue of Pediatrics in Review (1:186, 1979) the reference was incorrect. The correct reference is Pediatrics 59:799, 1977 (volume 59 not 60). You may wish to correct that page in your December issue.
