We have studied the behaviour of resistance and conductance vfluctuation in disordered chains, using the invariant embedding approach. Length dependence of the average ln (1 + ρ), where ρ is the resistance of the sample, is linear for all values of ρ. We have shown that in the mesoscopic regime the conductance fluctuation in this model is almost constant with length and takes a value about 0.26 independent of the degree of disorder. These fluctuations die down at large lengths beyond mesoscopic region. This is entirely because of coherent backscattering due to disorder and has nothing to do with inelastic scattering which is absent in our model.
