We investigate baryon-baryon (BB) interactions in the strangeness S = −2 sector via the coupled-channel HAL QCD method which enables us to extract the scattering observables from Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) wave function on the lattice. The simulations are performed with (almost) physical quark masses (mπ = 146MeV) and a huge lattice volume of La = 8.1fm. We discuss the fate of H-dibaryon state through the ΛΛ and NΞ coupled-channel scatterings

The current constraints from lattice QCD on the existence of the H-dibaryon are discussed. With only two significant lattice QCD calculations of the H-dibaryon binding energy at approximately the same lattice spacing, the forms of the chiral and continuum extrapolations to the physical point are not determined. In this brief report, we consider the constraints on the H-dibaryon imposed by two simple chiral extrapolations. In both instances, the extrapolation to the physical pion mass allows for a bound H-dibaryon or a near-threshold scattering state. Further lattice QCD calculations are required to clarify this situation.

We review the theoretical and experimental current status of the H dibaryon. We revise the recent experimental results obtained from double-Λ hypernuclei produced by means of Ξ-capture reactions using different target nuclei. Forthcoming experimental projects are briefly summarized. We also review the recent theoretical quark-model studies, some of them constrained by observables of the strangeness -2 two-baryon sector. Ongoing theoretical efforts by means of lattice QCD are also discussed.
