This paper presents a novel shunt active power filter (SAPF). The power converter that is used in this SAPF is constructed from a four-leg asymmetric multi-level cascaded H-bridge (CHB) inverter that is fed from a photovoltaic source. A three-dimensional space vector modulation (3D-SVPWM) technique is adopted in this work. The multi-level inverter can generate 27-level output with harmonic content is almost zero. In addition to the capability to inject reactive power and mitigating the harmonics, the proposed SAPF has also, the ability to inject real power as it is fed from a PV source. Moreover, it has a fault-tolerant capability that makes the SAPF maintaining its operation under a loss of one leg of the multi-level inverter due to an open-circuit fault without any degradation in the performance. The proposed SAPF is designed and simulated in MATLAB SIMULINK using a single nonlinear load and the results have shown a significant reduction in total harmonics distortion (THD) of the source current under the normal operating condition and post a failure in one phase of the SAPF. Also, similar results are obtained when IEEE 15 bus network is used.

The harmonic current detection technology is one of the key technologies of active power filter technologies. The development of the harmonic current detection technology directly determines the development of the active power filter technologies. Based on this, this paper introduces some basis concepts of wavelet transform and analyzes its time-frequency localization properties, then, describes the harmonic detection methods based on wavelet transform in terms of program building, algorithm selection and wavelet function selection. The results show that the harmonic current detection methods based on wavelet transform are able to compensate the inadequacy of Fourier transforms and can achieve the functions of detecting the steady-state and time-varying harmonic current of the grid in harmonic detection of active power filter.

In this paper shunt active power filter is used to improve the power quality at distribution system. Due to nonlinear loads, current harmonics, unbalanced voltages and current and reactive power problems will be created in the network. The Instantaneous real power theory (IRPT) provides the real power calculation with PI controller will not provide accurate result and good performance under both steady state and transient state. Compensating above problems by using fuzzy based on Cascaded multi-level voltage source inverter. The inverter switching signals are generated based on the triangular sampling current controller provides power line conditioning. The Paper deals with three phase, five level cascaded multi level voltage source inverter based shunt active filter with PI and Fuzzy controller by using MATLAB/Simulink.
