Harmonics reduction techniques in source current were found to be unreliable and imbalanced with different load conditions. This certain unreliability problem in harmonics mitigation is caused by non-linear loads. The harmonics and power quality problems are eliminated by filters. These filters are expensive to provide a dynamic response under various load conditions. The new unified power flow controller composed of a series and shunt compensator provides more secured power systems and good voltage stability at various load conditions. D-Q theory is used to generate the reference current from the AC source current. D-Q theory produces sinusoidal harmonics that are opposite to load harmonics. This UPFC can absorb or inject reactive power in the PCC. D-Q theory followed by a hysteresis current controller generates PWM pulses to the shunt and series compensator. The PI and fuzzy logic controllers preserve the DC link voltage in the storage capacitor. The proposed technique has been simulated by using Matlab simulation under different load conditions.

In Modern Power System power quality is the main issue of the power companies. Improvement of power quality in distribution system using photovoltaic based DPFC is declared in this paper. Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) device which is known as distributed power flow controller (DPFC)is used. DPFC is derived from UPFC by eliminating common dc link between series and shunt converter. Unified power flow controller (UPFC) is widely used and control all parameters of the system. The UPFC handle the current and voltage with high rating; therefore, the cost of system is high. Therefore, distributed power flow controller (DPFC) is used due to high control capability, high Reliability & low cost. DPFC also measures the transmission angle, line impedance and bus voltage. In distribution system problems occur like voltage sag/swell, Harmonics etc. Photovoltaic system is used as source for DPFC.

<p>The Power quality of the electrical system is an important issue for industrial, commercial, and housing uses. An increasing request for high quality electrical power and an increasing number of distorting loads had led to increase the consideration of power quality by customers and utilities. The development and use of flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTs) controllers in power transmission systems had led to many applications of these controllers. A unified power flow controller (UPFC) is one of the FACTs elements which is used to control both active and reactive power flow of the transmission line. This paper tried to improve power quality using a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based UPFC, where it used to control both active and reactive power flow, decreas the total harmonic distortion (THD), correct power factor, regulate line voltage and enhance transient stability. A comparison study of the performance between the system with a conventional PID controller and FLC has been done. The theoretical analysis has been proved by implementing the system using MATLAB/SIMULINK package. The Power quality of the electrical system is an important issue for industrial, commercial, and housing uses. The developments in power quality are fast and difficult to predict. The majority of power quality issues experienced by industrial customers can be attributed to momentary interruptions, voltage sags or swells, transients, harmonic distortion, electrical noise, and flickering lights, among others. A new device may be invented tomorrow solving power quality problems. The FACTS devices could provide fast control of active and reactive power through a transmission line. The unified power-flow controller (UPFC) is a member of the FACTS family with very attractive features. This device can independently control many parameters, so it is the combination of the properties of a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) and static synchronous series compensator (SSSC).The performance of AC Transmission system with Unified power flow controller under various power quality problems analysis described. The proposed system is formulated and research work is done by wavelet multi resolution analysis using Bior1.5 mother wavelet with MATLAB/SIMULINK software. It is observed that the effectiveness of AC power transmission through Unified power flow controller under power quality problems of sag, swell, transient, temporary faults and capacitive switching.
