This work pertains to integration of supercapacitor energy storage system with wind-penetrated two-area power system. A small-sized SCES device is incorporated in automatic generation control of each area. For robust and optimum usage of SCES, a customized neuro-adaptive predictive control model is developed using level 1 S-function coding. This model feeds reference power command to the converter of storage system with its voltage used as feedback loop. A step load disturbance reflecting load outage is introduced back to back in the power system. It is seen through simulation studies carried out in MATLAB Simulink Environment that there is significant improvement in frequency response and tie power deviations. SCES converter power limits are fully maintained; besides, SCES voltage and power response is also depicted.

Wind power is renewable energy, which has mature technology, considerable economic benefits and huge development scale. This paper proposes a coordinated strategy for AGC of Thermal hydro-wind Power and Energy Storage System which study the mathematical model of wind power and energy storage system, and the strategy of generation schedule, and key technologies of automatic generation control system (AGC) of four unequal interconnected Thermal, Wind, Hydro power plant and Energy storage.

With the rapid increase of the installed capacity of wind power, the output power fluctuations of wind park had a great influence on the stability of the grid. Energy storage system in the wind farm can smooth the fluctuations of wind power effectively, and improve grid ability to admit wind power. The model of energy storage system based on vanadium redox flow battery was builded according to the state of charge, voltage and current characteristics. A kind of power control strategy with low-pass filtering was designed based on the new system model. Simulation results show that this model is more closer to the actual vanadium flow battery characteristics, the control strategy based on low-pass filtering can stabilize the output fluctuations of the wind farm power.
