In order to maximize the output power of PV cells, an improved maximum power point tracking method has been proposed in this paper. The approach is a combination of Lagrange polynomial interpolation with perturb and observe (P&O) method. The MPPT method based on output characteristic curve can be rapidly stabilization of operating point in the approximate region near the maximum power point which shortened the response time. A comparison study between the classical P&O method and the improved method is done in order to validate the new MPPT method. The results showed that the oscillations around the MPP for improved method are almost eliminated, and the efficiency of the improved method is an average of 90.4% compared to 66.8% of the classical P&O method.
