Recent years have witnessed a growing interest in using Web services as a reliable means for medical data sharing inside and across healthcare organizations. In such service-based data sharing environments, Web service composition emerged as a viable approach to query data scattered across independent locations. Patient data privacy preservation is an important aspect that must be considered when composing medical Web services. In this paper, the authors show how data privacy can be preserved when composing and executing Web services. Privacy constraints are expressed in the form of RDF queries over a mediated ontology. Query rewriting algorithms are defined to process those queries while preserving users’ privacy.

As commonly agreed, Web services fall into two categories depending on their functionality world-altering services and Data-as-a-Service (DaaS). Much work has been done on automatic DaaS discovery and composition, such as the query rewriting approach proposed by the database community. In this context, DaaS is described as Parameterized-RDF View over Domain Ontology (DO). However, the DO is unable to capture the different perspectives or viewpoints for the same domain knowledge. This limitation raises semantic conflicts between pieces of data exchanged during DaaS composition process. Thus, mediators are typically required to reconcile potential conflicts. In this paper, the authors propose a service-based approach for automatically inserting appropriate mediation services in DaaS compositions to resolve incompatibilities in their data flow. Also, the authors present a context-driven approach to support semantic mediation between composed DaaSs. The implementation and the experimental evaluations performed showed us satisfactory results.

SKK Migas plans to apply end-to-end security based on Web Services Security (WS-Security) for Sistem Operasi Terpadu (SOT). However, there are no prototype or simulation results that can support the plan that has already been communicated to many parties. This paper proposes an experiment that performs PRODML data transfer using WS-Security by altering the WSDL to include encryption and digital signature. The experiment utilizes SoapUI, and successfully loaded PRODML WSDL that had been altered with WSP-Policy based on X.509 to transfer a SOAP message.
