Description of a new species of Gaeolaelaps Evans & Till (Mesostigmata: Laelapidae) from northern Iran, supplementary information on G. deinos (Zeman) and redescription of G. schusteri (Hirschmann)

A new species of the laelapid mite genus Gaeolaelaps Evans & Till, G. tuberculatus sp. nov., is described from female specimens collected in soil and rotten leaves under citrus trees in Mazandaran province, northern Iran. Supplementary information on G. deinos (Zeman) is presented. Gaeolaelaps schusteri (Hirschmann) is redescribed based on the type specimens as well as additional specimens collected from the littoral zone of mangrove forests in Qeshm Island, in the eastern part of the Persian Gulf, southern Iran.

Herein, a new species of the hypoaspidine mite genus Gaeolaelaps, G. mirzakhaniae n. sp., is described on the basis of adult female and male specimens collected in soil and litter of citrus orchards in Kerman Province, southeastern Iran. Also, supplementary information for G. queenslandicus (Womersley) is presented. Moreover, Gaeolaelaps schusteri (Hirschmann) is reported for the first time from Iran on the basis of specimens collected in Mangrove forests of Qeshm in the Persian Gulf.

Adamystis persiangulfensis sp. nov. is described based on female, male, tritonymph, deutonymph and larva stages collected in the littoral zone of mangrove forests in Qeshm Island, in the eastern part of the Persian Gulf, southern Iran. This new species is distinguished by having two pairs of adoral setae; chelicera with one seta; palpal tarsus with 14 setae; idiosoma with one poorly defined (weakly sclerotized) shield; dorsum laterally at least with 19 pairs of lens-like structures and five pairs of aggenital setae (ag1–5). Additionally, an identification key to known species of Adamystis is updated.

Polychaetes of 31 species from 17 families (Amphinomidae, Chrysopetalidae, Eunicidae, Glyceridae, Hesionidae, Iphionidae, Lumbrineridae, Maldanidae, Nereididae, Oenonidae, Phyllodocidae, Polynoidae, Sabellidae, Serpulidae, Syllidae, Terebellidae, Trichobranchidae) were studied from five locations around Abu Musa Island, the Persian Gulf.Perinereis iranicasp. nov. is described as a new species for the Persian Gulf.Perinereis iranicasp. nov. is most similar to members of thePerinereis cultriferaspecies complex, which are also found in the Persian Gulf, but can be most easily distinguished from them by the number, shape and arrangement of paragnaths in Areas V and VI.Perinereis camiguanais compared to members of the genus Pseudonereis, and found to resemble them closely, but until type specimens can be re-examined, we recommend treating this species asNereidinae incertae sedis.Fifteen species, belonging to 13 genera:Eunice‘sp_Abu Musa’,Marphysa‘sp_Abu Musa’,Glyceracf.tesselata,Hesione splendida,Lumbrineris‘sp_Abu Musa’,Notoproctus‘sp_Abu Musa’,Nereissp. cf.N. pelagica,Eteone‘sp_Abu Musa’,Harmothoe liaoi,Potamilla‘sp_Abu Musa’,Branchiosylliscf.exilis,Trypanosyllis‘sp. 1_Abu Musa’,Trypanosyllis‘sp. 2_Abu Musa’,Terebella‘sp_Abu Musa’,Terebellidescf.stroemiare reported for the first time from the Persian Gulf; nine species remain to be named formally. A new species, Stigmocheylus persicus sp. nov. (Trombidiformes: Prostigmata: Stigmocheylidae) is described based on adult females from Noor, Mazandaran province, northern Iran. The new species can be distinguished from other species by the following features: non-segmented peritremes; absence of setae c3; presence of setae g2; coxa II with four setae; genu I with nine setae; tarsi I–IV with 24(+2ω)–11(+1ω)-11-10 setae. This finding presents the first new species of the family Stigmocheylidae Berlese, 1910 from Asia. Additionally, an identification key to known species of Stigmocheylus is updated.

In a survey on the edaphic mesostigmatic mites in mangrove forests of Qeshm Island, eastern of the Persian Gulf, two species of the family Ascidae were collected in broken cockleshells and sand in littoral zone: Leioseius sepidehae sp. nov. and Protogamasellus mica (Athias-Henriot, 1961). This is the first record of the genus Leioseius from Iran. Leioseius sepidehae sp. nov. is described from adult females. Intraspecific variations of some characters of P. mica are discussed, and based on those, P. primitivus machadoi Genis, Loots & Ryke, 1967 and P. primitivus similis Genis, Loots & Ryke, 1967 are herein synonymized under P. mica. Finally, the occasional presence of the gland pores gv1 in Ascidae is reviewed, and a key to the Iranian genera and species of Ascidae is presented.

A new species of zerconid mites, Prozercon caspiansis sp. nov. is described based on female, male, and protonymph specimens collected from different forestland areas in Mazandaran Province, northern Iran. In addition, the male and larval specimens of P. dominiaki Błaszak were found in the same region and described for the first time. An updated key for the Iranian Prozercon species is provided, and the situation of the Iranian genera and species of the family is briefly discussed.

Garra hormuzensis, new species, is described from the Kol River drainage. It is distinguished from its congeners in the Iranian part of the Persian Gulf basin by having 7½ branched dorsal-fin rays, usually 9+8 branched caudal-fin rays, the breast, belly and back in front of the dorsal-fin origin covered by scales, and a free lateral and posterior margins of the gular disc. It is further characterised by having a minimum K2P distance of 1.16% to G. mondica in the mtDNA COI barcode region.
