Let X be a Cantor set, and let A be a unital separable simple amenable [Formula: see text]-stable C*-algebra with rationally tracial rank no more than one, which satisfies the Universal Coefficient Theorem (UCT). We use C(X, A) to denote the algebra of all continuous functions from X to A. Let α be an automorphism on C(X, A). Suppose that C(X, A) is α-simple, [α|1⊗A] = [ id |1⊗A] in KL(1 ⊗ A, C(X, A)), τ(α(1 ⊗ a)) = τ(1 ⊗ a) for all τ ∈ T(C(X, A)) and all a ∈ A, and [Formula: see text] for all u ∈ U(A) (where α‡ and id‡ are homomorphisms from U(C(X, A))/CU(C(X, A)) → U(C(X, A))/CU(C(X, A)) induced by α and id, respectively, and where CU(C(X, A)) is the closure of the subgroup generated by commutators of the unitary group U(C(X, A)) of C(X, A)), then the corresponding crossed product C(X, A) ⋊α ℤ is a unital simple [Formula: see text]-stable C*-algebra with rationally tracial rank no more than one, which satisfies the UCT. Let X be a Cantor set and 𝕋 be the circle. Let γ : X × 𝕋n → X × 𝕋n be a minimal homeomorphism. It is proved that, as long as the cocycles are rotations, the tracial rank of the corresponding crossed product C*-algebra is always no more than one.

Let [Formula: see text] be an infinite compact metric space with finite covering dimension, let [Formula: see text] be a unital separable simple AH-algebra with no dimension growth, and denote by [Formula: see text] the [Formula: see text]-algebra of all continuous functions from [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text] Suppose that [Formula: see text] is a minimal group action and the induced [Formula: see text]-action on [Formula: see text] is free. Under certain conditions, we show the crossed product [Formula: see text]-algebra [Formula: see text] has rational tracial rank zero and hence is classified by its Elliott invariant. Next, we show the following: Let [Formula: see text] be a Cantor set, let [Formula: see text] be a stably finite unital separable simple [Formula: see text]-algebra which is rationally TA[Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] is a class of separable unital [Formula: see text]-algebras which is closed under tensoring with finite dimensional [Formula: see text]-algebras and closed under taking unital hereditary sub-[Formula: see text]-algebras, and let [Formula: see text]. Under certain conditions, we conclude that [Formula: see text] is rationally TA[Formula: see text] Finally, we classify the crossed products of certain unital simple [Formula: see text]-algebras by using the crossed products of [Formula: see text].

Let [Formula: see text] be the class of all unital separable simple [Formula: see text]-algebras [Formula: see text] such that [Formula: see text] has tracial rank no more than one for all UHF-algebra [Formula: see text] of infinite type. It has been shown that all amenable [Formula: see text]-stable [Formula: see text]-algebras in [Formula: see text] which satisfy the Universal Coefficient Theorem can be classified up to isomorphism by the Elliott invariant. In this note, we show that [Formula: see text] if and only if [Formula: see text] has tracial rank no more than one for some unital simple infinite dimensional AF-algebra [Formula: see text] In fact, we show that [Formula: see text] if and only if [Formula: see text] for some unital simple AH-algebra [Formula: see text] We actually prove a more general result. Other results regarding the tensor products of [Formula: see text]-algebras in [Formula: see text] are also obtained.

Abstract We introduce and study the continuous Rokhlin property for actions of compact groups on $C^*$-algebras. An important technical result is a characterization of the continuous Rokhlin property in terms of asymptotic retracts. As a consequence, we derive strong $KK$-theoretical obstructions to the continuous Rokhlin property. Using these, we show that the Universal Coefficient Theorem (UCT) is preserved under formation of crossed products and passage to fixed point algebras by such actions, even in the absence of nuclearity. As an application of the case of ${{\mathbb{Z}}}_3$-actions, we answer a question of Phillips–Viola about algebras not isomorphic to their opposites. Our analysis of the $KK$-theory of the crossed product allows us to prove a ${{\mathbb{T}}}$-equivariant version of Kirchberg–Phillips: two circle actions with the continuous Rokhlin property on Kirchberg algebras are conjugate whenever they are $KK^{{{\mathbb{T}}}}$-equivalent. In the presence of the UCT, this is equivalent to having isomorphic equivariant $K$-theory. We moreover characterize the $KK^{{{\mathbb{T}}}}$-theoretical invariants that arise in this way. Finally, we identify a $KK^{{{\mathbb{T}}}}$-theoretic obstruction to the continuous property, which is shown to be the only obstruction in the setting of Kirchberg algebras. We show by means of explicit examples that the Rokhlin property is strictly weaker than the continuous Rokhlin property.

Let G be an inductive limit of finite cyclic groups, and A be a unital simple projectionless C*-algebra with K1(A) ≅ G and a unique tracial state, as constructed based on dimension drop algebras by Jiang and Su. First, we show that any two aperiodic elements in Aut (A)/ WInn (A) are conjugate, where WInn (A) means the subgroup of Aut (A) consisting of automorphisms which are inner in the tracial representation. In the second part of this paper, we consider a class of unital simple C*-algebras with a unique tracial state which contains the class of unital simple A𝕋-algebras of real rank zero with a unique tracial state. This class is closed under inductive limits and crossed products by actions of ℤ with the Rohlin property. Let A be a TAF-algebra in this class. We show that for any automorphism α of A there exists an automorphism ᾶ of A with the Rohlin property such that ᾶ and α are asymptotically unitarily equivalent. For the proof we use an aperiodic automorphism of the Jiang-Su algebra.

We study homeomorphisms of a Cantor set with $k$ ( $k<+\infty$ ) minimal invariant closed (but not open) subsets; we also study crossed product C*-algebras associated to these Cantor systems and certain of their orbit-cut sub-C*-algebras. In the case where $k\geq 2$ , the crossed product C*-algebra is stably finite, has stable rank 2, and has real rank 0 if in addition $(X,\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E})$ is aperiodic. The image of the index map is connected to certain directed graphs arising from the Bratteli–Vershik–Kakutani model of the Cantor system. Using this, it is shown that the ideal of the Bratteli diagram (of the Bratteli–Vershik–Kakutani model) must have at least $k$ vertices at each level, and the image of the index map must consist of infinitesimals.

We consider two twisted actions of a countable discrete group on $\sigma$-unital $C^*$-algebras. Then by taking the reduced crossed products, we get two inclusions of $C^*$-algebras. We suppose that they are strongly Morita equivalent as inclusions of $C^*$-algebras. Also, we suppose that one of the inclusions of $C^*$-algebras is irreducible, that is, the relative commutant of one of the $\sigma$-unital $C^*$-algebra in the multiplier $C^*$-algebra of the reduced twisted crossed product is trivial. We show that the two actions are then strongly Morita equivalent up to some automorphism of the group.

This paper contains computations of the Cuntz semigroup of separable C*-algebras of the form C0(X, A), where A is a unital, simple, [Formula: see text]-stable ASH algebra. The computations describe the Cuntz semigroup in terms of Murray–von Neumann semigroups of C(K, A) for compact subsets K of X. In particular, the computation shows that the Elliott invariant is functorially equivalent to the invariant given by the Cuntz semigroup of C(𝕋, A). These results are a contribution towards the goal of using the Cuntz semigroup in the classification of well-behaved non-simple C*-algebras.

AbstractWe study conditions that will ensure that a crossed product of a C*-algebra by a discrete exact group is purely infinite (simple or non-simple). We are particularly interested in the case of a discrete non-amenable exact group acting on a commutative C*-algebra, where our sufficient conditions can be phrased in terms of paradoxicality of subsets of the spectrum of the abelian C*-algebra. As an application of our results we show that every discrete countable non-amenable exact group admits a free amenable minimal action on the Cantor set such that the corresponding crossed product C*-algebra is a Kirchberg algebra in the UCT class.

An ATAI (or ATAF, respectively) algebra, introduced in [C. Jiang, A classification of non simple C*-algebras of tracial rank one: Inductive limit of finite direct sums of simple TAI C*-algebras, J. Topol. Anal. 3 (2011) 385–404] (or in [X. C. Fang, The classification of certain non-simple C*-algebras of tracial rank zero, J. Funct. Anal. 256 (2009) 3861–3891], respectively) is an inductive limit [Formula: see text], where each [Formula: see text] is a simple separable nuclear TAI (or TAF) C*-algebra with UCT property. In [C. Jiang, A classification of non simple C*-algebras of tracial rank one: Inductive limit of finite direct sums of simple TAI C*-algebras, J. Topol. Anal. 3 (2011) 385–404], the second author classified all ATAI algebras by an invariant consisting orderd total [Formula: see text]-theory and tracial state spaces of cut down algebras under an extra restriction that all element in [Formula: see text] are torsion. In this paper, we remove this restriction, and obtained the classification for all ATAI algebras with the Hausdorffized algebraic [Formula: see text]-group as an addition to the invariant used in [C. Jiang, A classification of non simple C*-algebras of tracial rank one: Inductive limit of finite direct sums of simple TAI C*-algebras, J. Topol. Anal. 3 (2011) 385–404]. The theorem is proved by reducing the class to the classification theorem of [Formula: see text] algebras with ideal property which is done in [G. Gong, C. Jiang and L. Li, A classification of inductive limit C*-algebras with ideal property, preprint (2016), arXiv:1607.07681]. Our theorem generalizes the main theorem of [X. C. Fang, The classification of certain non-simple C*-algebras of tracial rank zero, J. Funct. Anal. 256 (2009) 3861–3891], [C. Jiang, A classification of non simple C*-algebras of tracial rank one: Inductive limit of finite direct sums of simple TAI C*-algebras, J. Topol. Anal. 3 (2011) 385–404] (see Corollary 4.3).
