The paper studies explicitly the Hitchin system restricted to the Higgs fields on a fixed very stable rank 2 bundle in genus 2 and 3. The associated families of quadrics relate to both the geometry of Penrose's twistor spaces and several classical results.

Abstract We study the structure and compute the stable rank of $C^{*}$ -algebras of finite higher-rank graphs. We completely determine the stable rank of the $C^{*}$ -algebra when the $k$ -graph either contains no cycle with an entrance or is cofinal. We also determine exactly which finite, locally convex $k$ -graphs yield unital stably finite $C^{*}$ -algebras. We give several examples to illustrate our results.

Exciting recent developments in Topological Data Analysis have aimed at combining homology-based invariants with Machine Learning. In this article, we use hierarchical stabilization to bridge between persistence and kernel-based methods by introducing the so-called stable rank kernels. A fundamental property of the stable rank kernels is that they depend on metrics to compare persistence modules. We illustrate their use on artificial and real-world datasets and show that by varying the metric we can improve accuracy in classification tasks.

Abstract Let X be a smooth projective complex curve of genus g ≥ 2 and let M X (2,Λ) be the moduli space of semi-stable rank-2 vector bundles over X with fixed determinant Λ. We show that the wobbly locus, i.e. the locus of semi-stable vector bundles admitting a non-zero nilpotent Higgs field, is a union of divisors 𝓦 k ⊂ M X (2,Λ). We show that on one wobbly divisor the set of maximal subbundles is degenerate. We also compute the class of the divisors 𝓦 k in the Picard group of M X (2, Λ).

Abstract Let $H^\infty ({\mathbb {D}}\times {\mathbb {N}})$ be the Banach algebra of bounded holomorphic functions defined on the disjoint union of countably many copies of the open unit disk ${\mathbb {D}}\subset {{\mathbb C}}$ . We show that the dense stable rank of $H^\infty ({\mathbb {D}}\times {\mathbb {N}})$ is $1$ and, using this fact, prove some nonlinear Runge-type approximation theorems for $H^\infty ({\mathbb {D}}\times {\mathbb {N}})$ maps. Then we apply these results to obtain a priori uniform estimates of norms of approximating maps in similar approximation problems for the algebra $H^\infty ({\mathbb {D}})$ .

We revise the construction of the augmented Cuntz semigroup functor used by the first author to classify inductive limits of $1$-dimensional noncommutative CW complexes. The original construction has good functorial properties when restricted to the class of C*-algebras of stable rank one. The construction proposed here has good properties for all C*-algebras: we show that the augmented Cuntz semigroup is a stable, continuous, split exact functor, from the category of C*-algebras to the category of Cu-semigroups.
