The non-factorizable terms in the operator product expansion have been recognized as one of the theoretical obstacles for precision determination of the mixing parameter Vub from semileptonic B decays. It is pointed out here that the recent CLEO data on the parameters of the heavy quark expansion λ1 and [Formula: see text], combined with a theoretical bound on λ1 strongly favor the existence of a sizeable contribution of non-factorizable terms in semileptonic decays of D mesons. Thus these terms are likely to solve the long-standing problem of the deficit of semileptonic decay rate of the D mesons, and with better data their magnitude can be determined and used in studies of the parameter Vub.

Recent theoretical and experimental improvements in the determination of charmed- and bottom-quark masses are discussed. The final results, mc(3 GeV ) = 986(13) MeV and mb(mb) = 4163(16) MeV , are among the most precise determinations of these two fundamental parameters. A critical analysis of the theoretical and experimental uncertainties is presented and possibilities for further improvements of the experimental input are discussed.

We have calculated the kinematical correlations between charged leptons from semileptonic decays of open charm/bottom as well as leptons produced in the Drell-Yan mechanism in proton-proton collisions at BNL RHIC. Presented production rates for open charm and bottom were estimated by a detailed analysis of so-called nonphotonic electrons. The distributions for charm and bottom quarks pairs are calculated in the kt-factorization approach with the help of the Kwieciński unintegrated parton distributions. The hadronization of heavy quarks is done by means of Peterson et al. fragmentation function. The semileptonic decay functions are found by fitting recent semileptonic data obtained by the CLEO and BABAR. We get good description of recent PHENIX data.

We investigate the form factors for exclusive semileptonic decays of B meson to D, D*, based on the parton picture and helped by the results of the HQET. We obtain the numerical results for the slope of the Isgur–Wise function, which is consistent with the experimental results, and we extract the dependence of hadronic form factors on q2 by varying the input heavy quark fragmentation function without the nearest pole dominance ansätze.

Using 250 pb-1 of data collected with the DØ detector in Run II of the Tevatron, the two narrow (L = 1) states, D1(2420) and [Formula: see text] have been observed in semileptonic decays of B mesons. Results on the D*+ π- decay mode are presented including a measurement of the branching fraction of B mesons to these states.
