Abstract Fano resonance and plasma induced transparency (PIT) have been widely observed in various plasmonic nanostructures. Fano resonance takes place in weak coupling regime where coupling constant between two electromagnetic modes is lower than damping constant of system. Hence, extracting coupling and damping coefficients from resonance spectrum is the key to distinguish between Fano resonance and other resonances. In this paper, we propose a simple and realizable coupled LC circuit to analyze Fano resonance and PIT. Weak and strong coupling regime are distinguished by comparing coupling constant with damping constant. Meanwhile, we gain deep insight into Fano resonance and PIT in circuit by analyzing circuit phase and understand their connection with resonance in photonic structure. Furthermore, we extend the equivalent circuit model to the field involved short-range plasmon polarization or multi-orders dark modes. Since there are no specific parameters associated with photonic nanostructure, the proposed equivalent circuit can be used in most plasmonic resonance system as an universal model.

We present a model of impurity-induced magnetization of graphene assuming that the main source of graphene magnetization is related to impurity states with a localized spin. The analysis of solutions of the Schrödinger equation for electrons near the Dirac point has been performed using the model of massless fermions. For a single impurity, the solution of Schrödinger’s equation is a linear combination of Bessel functions. We found resonance energy levels of the non-magnetic impurity. The magnetic moment of impurity with a localized spin was accounted for the calculation of graphene magnetization using the Green’s function formalism. The spatial distribution of induced magnetization for a single impurity is obtained. The energy of resonance states was also calculated as a function of interaction. This energy is depending on the impurity potential and the coupling constant of interaction.

We develop a framework to analyze the dynamics of a finite-dimensional quantum system S in contact with a reservoir R. The full, interacting SR dynamics is unitary. The reservoir has a stationary state but otherwise dissipative dynamics. We identify a main part of the full dynamics, which approximates it for small values of the SR coupling constant, uniformly for all times t≥0. The main part consists of explicit oscillating and decaying parts. We show that the reduced system evolution is Markovian for all times. The technical novelty is a detailed analysis of the link between the dynamics and the spectral properties of the generator of the SR dynamics, based on Mourre theory. We allow for SR interactions with little regularity, meaning that the decay of the reservoir correlation function only needs to be polynomial in time, improving on the previously required exponential decay. In this work we distill the structural and technical ingredients causing the characteristic features of oscillation and decay of the SR dynamics. In the companion paper [27] we apply the formalism to the concrete case of an N-level system linearly coupled to a spatially infinitely extended thermal bath of non-interacting Bosons.

A finite-dimensional quantum system is coupled to a bath of oscillators in thermal equilibrium at temperature T>0. We show that for fixed, small values of the coupling constant λ, the true reduced dynamics of the system is approximated by the completely positive, trace preserving Markovian semigroup generated by the Davies-Lindblad generator. The difference between the true and the Markovian dynamics is O(|λ|1/4) for all times, meaning that the solution of the Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan-Lindblad master equation is approximating the true dynamics to accuracy O(|λ|1/4) for all times. Our method is based on a recently obtained expansion of the full system-bath propagator. It applies to reservoirs with correlation functions decaying in time as 1/t4 or faster, which is a significant improvement relative to the previously required exponential decay.

The propagation of long-wavelength gluons through a dense QCD medium at high baryon chemical potential μB is qualitatively modified by the effects of screening, arising from scatterings off the high-momentum quarks in the medium. This same screening phenomenon also impacts gluons occurring in loop corrections to the pressure of cold quark matter, leading to contributions from the parametric scale αs1/2μB, starting at next-to-next-to-leading order (N2LO) in the strong coupling constant αs. At next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO), interactions between these long-wavelength gluonic modes contribute to the pressure. These interaction corrections have recently been computed in Ref [1, 2], and the inclusion of these interactions slightly improves the convergence of the equation of state of cold quark matter. In these proceedings, we present these results and provide details summarizing how this lengthy calculation was performed.

We study two important properties of 2+1D QCD, namely confinement and Pseudoscalar glueball spectrum, using holographic approach. The confined state of the bounded quark-antiquark pair occurs in the self-coupling dominated nonperturbative regime, where the free gluons form the bound states, known as glueballs. The gauge theory corresponding to low energy decoupled geometry of isotropic non-supersymmetric D2 brane, which is again similar to the 2+1D YM theory, has been taken into account but in this case the coupling constant is found to vary with the energy scale. At BPS limit, this theory reduces to supersymmetric YM theory. We have considered NG action of a test string and calculate the potential of such confined state located on the boundary. The QCD flux tube tension for large quark-antiquark separation is observed to be a monotonically increasing function of running coupling. The mass spectrum of Pseudoscalar glueball is evaluated numerically from the fluctuations of the axion in the gravity theory using WKB approximation. This produces the mass to be related to the string tension and the levels of the first three energy states. The various results that we obtained quite match with those previously studied through the lattice approach.

Introduction/purpose: The running of the coupling constant in various Quantum Field Theories and a possible behaviour of the beta function are illustrated. Methods: The Callan-Symanzik equation is used for the study of the beta function evolution. Results: Different behaviours of the coupling constant for high energies are observed for different theories. The phenomenon of asymptotic freedom is of particular interest. Conclusions: Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) and Quantum Chromodinamics (QCD) coupling constants have completely different behaviours in the regime of high energies. While the first one diverges for finite energies, the latter one tends to zero as energy increases. This QCD phenomenon is called asymptotic freedom.
