Ovarian small cell carcinoma is a rare and highly malignant neoplasm carrying a poor prognosis. Although combination chemotherapy remains the cornerstone of treatment due to the rarity of these tumors, no regimen can be recommended as standard of care although in the majority of cases platinum-based regimens are used. Herein, we report two cases of small cell carcinoma of the ovaries along with a review of the relevant literature.

Ovarian small cell carcinoma is a rare tumor associated with poor prognosis. Although combination chemotherapy remains the cornerstone of treatment due to the rarity of these tumors, there is no evidencebased consensus for a standard treatment, although in the majority of cases platinum-based regimens are used. A case of small cell carcinoma of the ovary, hypercalcemic-type (SCCOHT), in a 22 year-old patient is reported.

Small cell carcinoma of the cervix is a rare malignant tumor in the clinical setting. Clinical manifestations of this tumor are mostly similar to those of normal types of cervical cancer. Small cell carcinoma of the cervix only shows symptoms of neuroendocrine tumors, such as syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH). Most of the hyponatremia caused by SIADH can be managed after removal of the cause. Hyponatremia is a predictor of poor prognosis and can be used as an indicator of partial recurrence. We report a case of small cell carcinoma of the cervix complicated by SIADH. Our patient presented with irregular vaginal bleeding after menopause. After one cycle of chemotherapy, there was trembling of the limbs, and a laboratory examination showed low Na+ and low Cl− levels. After limited water intake, intravenous hypertonic saline, and intermittent diuretic treatment, the patient’s blood Na+ levels returned to normal. After a radical operation, the above-mentioned symptoms disappeared.

Abstract Introduction We report a case of small cell carcinoma of the prostate (SCCP) which is a rare, high-grade malignant neoplasm accounting for 1% of all prostate cancers (CPa). Case Presentation A 56-year-old male patient initially presented to primary care with a six-month history of frequency, nocturia and pain in the perineal region when seated. A positive family-history for CPa was noted, serum PSA was 11.58, and a rectal examination found a large, irregular mass. He was treated with antibiotics for possible prostatitis and referred to the colorectal team. MRI rectum confirmed a mass between the prostate and rectum, which was found to be pure SCCP on biopsy. Whole-body scanning found multiple lung and pelvic metastases. The patient was commenced on six cycles of Etoposide and Carboplatin therapy. The patient reported that his pelvic discomfort has improved following the first cycle. Conclusions SCCP metastasizes early and therefore the clinical presentation is often in an advanced stage. It is noted that there is limited value of serum PSA for SCCP diagnosis. Instead, pathological examinations and MRI rectum are vital. In terms of treatment, chemotherapy provides relief of the clinical symptoms and its use is in in accordance with the 2016 National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines.
