The complete oral rehabilitation of patients demanding a beautiful and attractive smile involves a multidisciplinary approach that includes the change of both the morphological aspect of the teeth and the architecture of gum tissues. This clinical report describes a successful interdisciplinary approach for the treatment of an esthetically compromised dentition. In a first phase, the periodontal plastic surgery was performed for root coverage and, in particular, it was decided for the execution of a coronally advanced flap for the treatment of multiple recession defects. Once complete healing of soft tissues was obtained, six lithium disilicate veneers were placed over the anterior maxillary teeth. Lithium disilicate is a glass-based ceramic which presents excellent aesthetics and allows the passage of light without creating unnatural reflections. This feature has made it possible to recreate a natural aspect of teeth that in combination with the harmonic architecture of soft tissue has permitted obtaining a beautiful and pleasant smile.

Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) has been defined as a group of hereditary enamel defects. It can be characterized by enamel hypoplasia, hypomaturation, or hypocalcification of the teeth. AI may be associated with some other dental and skeletal developmental defects. Restoration for patients with this condition should be oriented toward the functional and esthetic rehabilitation. This clinical report describes the oral rehabilitation of a young patient diagnosed with the hypoplastic type of AI in posterior teeth and hypomatured type of AI in anterior teeth.

Traumatic injuries may cause anatomic deficiencies in soft and hard tissues. These defects often result in the loss of attached mucosa and alveolar processes, which might reduce potential prosthesis support and require bone and skin grafting. As a result of major maxillofacial trauma, complete or partial avulsion of the palate may require extensive surgical and prosthodontic rehabilitation. The appropriate treatment for the maxillary defect demands a multidisciplinary approach by a team which consists of various fields of dentistry and medicine. The planning prostheses should replace not only missing teeth but also lost soft tissues and bone, and they should include the hard palate, residual alveolar ridges, and, in some instances, the soft palate. This paper describes the treatment procedures including plastic surgery operation procedures and prosthetic rehabilitation in a 19-year-old woman after her severe bicycle accident.

ABSTRACTAmelogenesis imperfecta (AI) encompasses a complicated group of hereditary conditions that cause developmental alterations in the structure of the enamel in the absence of a systemic disorder. AI primarily affects the quality and/or quantity of dental enamel, and it may affect all or only some of the teeth in the primary and/or permanent dentition. This clinical report describes the oral rehabilitation of a 21-year-old man diagnosed with hypomaturation-type AI. He presented with discolored and mutilated teeth. Cephalometrically, the patient has skeletal class II malocclusion due to mandibular deficiency considered as a result of maxillary constriction. The interdisciplinary approach was followed because of the complex needs of the patient. The aim of treatment was to restore aesthetics, improve malocclusion and masticatory function. Aesthetic and functional expectations were met with metal ceramic restorations. In this report, the interdisciplinary approach for a patient with AI and a malocclusion is described. Ellis-van Creveld syndrome (EVC) is a very rare genetic disorder that affects various tissues of ectodermal and mesodermal origin; patients with EVC present with typical oral deficiencies. The affected individuals are quite young at the time of oral evaluation. It is, therefore, important that these individuals are diagnosed and receive dental treatment at an early age for their physiologic and psychosocial well-being. Albeit there are numerous articles penned on the EVC, the treatise from an oral perspective is inadequate, covering only oral exhibitions and the preventive treatments. This article reviews the literature and serves as the first disquisition for oral rehabilitation of an EVC patient utilizing surgical, orthodontic, restorative, and prosthodontic management.

The word “pelvic floor dysfunction” has different meanings in different specialties, i.e. radiology, urology, gynaecology, coloproctology. Despite the fact that the concept of perineology is not exactly new, most clinicians have only slowly adapted their practice to this transversal view. The multidisciplinary approach (several specialists dealing with various pelvic floor problems) still prevails over the interdisciplinary one (one specialist explaining what is happening) with several problems in the choice of therapeutic strategies. Obviously, the interdisciplinary approach requires a wide knowledge of the principles and techniques of each specialty. This monographic issue reviews advanced diagnostic testing for female pelvic floor dysfunctions from the perspective of a single specialist, namely a urologist.

Introduction: Cellular angiofibroma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor, occurring almost exclusively in the superficial soft tissues of the genital region. Some of these lesions presents as large, hypervascularized masses. There are no reports in the literature to date on the challenges of resection of hypervascularized vulvar masses, or of hypervascularized cellular angiofibroma.Materials and methods: We describe a case of a cellular angiofibroma of the vulva and the surgical approach with tumoral vessel embolization and posterior resection.Case: A 47-year-old women was referred to vulvar pathology section of Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires for evaluation of left vulvar mass. A pelvic angiography was performed 5 days prior to surgery. It showed a hypervascularized formation at the level of the left vulva at the expense mainly of branches of the left internal pudendal artery. A complete resection was performed afterwards at our institution. The histopathological diagnosis was compatible with cellular angiofibroma. Conclusion: We consider that surgical planning is essential and has to be performed with a multidisciplinary approach. Angiographic embolization should be taken into account as a valid resource when planning a surgery with a high risk of blood loss in order to decrease morbidity.
