The assignment of peroxo stretching frequencies for Molybdenum and Tungsten complexes is studied by DFT and MP2 calculations. We found that M06 functional is unsuitable for assignment of Mo=O and O–O stretches in CpMo(η2-O2)OCH3and we found that MP2 and even the def2-TZVP do not give accurate order of asymmetric and symmetric Mo=O stretching. We recommend the M06L, which is a good compromise between speed and accuracy, for works involving these complexes. For a series of ten Molybdenum and Tungsten complexes studied we found that, for Mo/W=O stretching frequencies at M06L/def2-TZVP, after scaling, a small RMSD of 15 cm−1could be obtained. However peroxo stretching frequencies RMSD remains high at 40 cm−1after scaling. This could potentially point out the need for reassignment of experimental peroxo frequencies in some of the works cited in this report.

An efficient synthesis of diarylallenylidene pentacarbonyl chromium and tungsten complexes is presented. Irradiation of M(CO)6 in THF affords (CO)sM[THF], Substitution of the THF ligand by diarylpropargylalcoholate and subsequent desoxygenation with COCF gives the title compounds in good yield. (The structure of diphenylallenylidene pentacarbonyl chromium has been determined by X-ray structure analysis

Molybdenum and tungsten nitrosyl complexes with dithiocarbamato ligands have been prepared and characterized by analysis, and 1H n.m.r, and infrared studies. The molybdenum complexes are formulated as seven-coordinate species [Mo(NCO)L(S2CNEt2)2NO]- (L = Cl-, N3-, NCS-),{Mo(NCO)(S2CNEt2)2NO}2N2H4 and [Mo(NCO)B(S2CNEt2)2NO](B = NH3, pyridine). Likely stereochemistries are discussed. New tungsten complexes have been prepared by photochemical reactions of cis-[W(S2CNEt2)2(NO)2] to give [WL2(S2CNEt2)2NO]-, [WL(S2CNEt2)2(Me2SO)NO](L = NCO-, N3-, NCS-) and [W(NCO)(S2CNEt2)2(MeCONMe2)NO]. Assignments for the nitrosyl infrared bands in cis-[MO(S2CNEt2)2(NO)2] and [Mo(NCO)(S,CNEt2)2(Me2SO)NO] havebeen made by using 15NO labelled ligands.
